Unfortunately, I now have a couple of small dents in the rear panel. I would like to avoid a re-spray of that panel is possible. Can anyone recommend a company that may be able to do a paint less repair... Thanks

Jas, I'm about to send you a phone number via pm.

The Guy is very good, based in Bang Na and I've used him lots, especially on new cars which have had door dings whilst in transit. (Mostly done at either Klongtoei or Laem Chabang)

I don't know what type of damage you have on your truck, but this Guy has saved me a ton of money over the last few years.

The one thing I have learned over the years is to watch very closely whilst they're doing the job as often they go overboard passed the point of no return and try and flat back the paint for a flat surface. Don't let them do that at all as all they're doing is grinding away the clear coat.

Make sure you are insistent when you want them to stop. Don't let them go so far as to need to tap the repair area with a hammer and plastic punch. It screws the paint for life.

Another thing; Small sharp dings are easy, larger shallow dents or depressions on large 'springy' panels are difficult!

Thanks for the above and your pm, Unfortunately this panel has already had a repaint as someone damaged it whilst I was parked a few months ago... this time it was my fault! Last time it cost 5000Baht and I paid it myself ... if I claim on the insurance it will cost me 2000Baht and they will pay the rest but they might remove my 2 year no claims reduction at next renewal.

Also last time they had to re-paint and then put it back in the oven as the colour match wasn't perfect .. it's Pearl White. It didn't go to Isuzu due to the waiting list .. the waiting list now at Tripetch is February!!

You can't see but the clear coat has been 'removed' on the front edge of the lower dent, about one eight of an inch wide. I don't think that it can be put back with a brush or a gun and then polished as it won't stick. Think it needs the complete wing clear coating. Here are the pics anyway. I will go and chat to the repair company and see what they say. Maybe they can repair and then blow in the raised bit of the wing and then clear coat the lot. I'm not very ofay with repairing paintwork that is clear coated.

What do you think?

The Guy I referred you to, doesn't do paint repairs as far as I'm aware, but he'd certainly sort the dent out for you.

if the new damage is at the same place as the old damage that was repaired you are probably going to have a problem "poping" the new dent out ,

the process works great with original metal but if the area was repaired by hammer and dolly and then some filler to finish it off , it may not work,

A good "dentmaster" guy will know that but you might want to tell him before he comes out.....

Hi, just thought I'd chip in here as I do this in the UK.... you're dead right about the previous repair bit....any filler/stopper involved in a previous repair will most likely stop a new repair.

The tapping back of high areas is a part of the repair process on most dents ...nearly all dents are actually a high area much larger than you think, with a low area (the impact point) inside it...the low area is mostly MUCH shallower than it looks to the eye...this is caused by a sort of ripple effect ( like a stone hitting water) where the metal travels away from the dent until it runs out of energy or hits a braced area etc.

If the dent man is having to flat and polish because of his own pushing then he's either working too fast, pushing too hard or the repair requires it...quite often the impact does damage the paint enough to warrant a flat and polish, although this should not be used to disguise over pushing ...... unfortunately every dent is different, etc..etc...

.. .....this is why my friends call me " the dent bore"biggrin.png

I am coming over to stay in Isaan (near Khon Kaen) later this year but will be on a marriage visa so working is a no go...and I dont think there would be much of a call for it around there anyway.smile.png will be desperate to have a go on some of the pickups around, they appear to have wings made of tin foil.
