Non-immigrant 'b' Visa Renewals

Recommended Posts

When a friend with a British passport recently renewed his

non-immigrant multy-entry ' B ' Visa in Phnom Penh

Cambodia, the embassy staff told him there would be

some " sweeping changes " after June of this year

- but wouldn't say anymore to him when asked

to clarify their remark.....? Does anyone have any idea

what " sweeping changes " are proposed ?

There has been nothing of consequence said that would be classed as sweeping changes. This close to June, with no announcements as yet, I suspect it was a bit of a beat up.

But I thought the financial requirements only applied to

non -immigrant ' O ' visas for retirement ? I may be wrong though...

But the case I quoted invloved renewing a 1 year ' b ' visa

which was accompanied by a valid work permit.

the financial requirment you are referring to is for one year extensions granted by thai immigration in thailand. the thai bank balance requirement will double in july for new applicants.

phnom penh is very strict for obtaining any non immigrant visa. your paperwork needs to be perfect or they will have no problem handing you a tourist visa.

My bet would be that when referring to "sweeping changes" in terms of Non Immigrant B in combination with a work permit they had the minimum monthly (taxable) salary requirements in mind to become effective as of July 04.

50,000 Baht minimum for Europeans, 60,000 Baht minimum for Americans etc. If someone used to pay taxes on 25,000 or 30,000 Baht only the increase could possibly be interpreted as a "sweeping change".

That is the only plausible explanation in respect of B visa's. Or was the Embassy officer winding up yet another farang ?
