I have a problem with many farmed Thai fish in that (to me) they taste 'earthy' or 'muddy'.

I would love to have a nice thick white fish like Atlantic cod or haddock or sea bass.

What are the best equivalent fish in Thailand ?

I've seen Chilean sea bass at Villa.

But you'll have to bring your banker, or have a zero balance on your Visa card.

As a retired banker with 7 cards, with a zero balance, I should be OK smile.png

Seriously though, I think the price at Villa might scare me off - other than for special occasions.

The earthy or muddy taste is typical of pretty much all freshwater fish - wild or farmed.

Just go for sea fish and you won't have that problem. And as a plus: fewer bones.

Try Makro, cheaper.

yep i have been buying these for over 2yrs.now and wont have any other had a nice fillet yesterday.

in makro known as,thai plaga-pong-khow, asian sea bass, baramundi.

they are not expensive around 150bht.a kilo on the fresh fish counter.they will clean,de-scale and fillet them for you.

i to love my cod and haddock but this is the best you can get.dont forget the chips and mushy peas.

There is a fish market up in North Pattaya somewhere. It might be worth the trip. Does anyone know where it is located exactly? I thought it would be worth seeing at least.

Yes. I love this fish market in Naklua. Unfortunately, I am 400 km away and can only get to it a few times each year.
