UNHCR applauds Thailand for its attempt to curb human trafficking

BANGKOK, 14 October 2014 (NNT) - The UNHCR Thailand Representative Ms. Mireille Girard has applauded Thailand for regulating illegal immigrant workers from neighboring countries, saying it showed the attempt to prevent human trafficking.

Ms. Girard made the comment when she paid a courtesy call on General Thanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, to congratulate him on his new posts and to follow up on the discussions the Deputy Prime Minister had made with Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations at the 69th UN General Assembly in New York. She cited the UN Secretary-General as saying the UN considered Thailand as a significant partner in the enhancement of sustainable development that was a primary mission of UN.

Mr. Sek Wannamethee, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Gen. Thanasak and Ms. Girard had discussed the 2012-2016 UN operation plan which had been adjusted to make it in line with the Eleventh National Economic and Social Development Plan as well as the active role of Thailand in sustainably developing ASEAN and international community.

The two also discussed the political situation in Thailand, in which Ms. Mireille Girard expressed her understanding towards new developments while Gen Thanasak updated her on the successful appointment of the National Reform Council (NRC) in accordance with the National Roadmap.

No quotes from the French woman. Merely interpretations of the Thai writer shilling for the Thai representative.

It seems the military government are writing there own news stories now.

Oh my God... I wonder what are requisites to be a Thai journalist.

Do they even have a vague idea on "How to write an article"?

Not any single quote from the UNHCR envoy, and let people think she todl what the journalist wrote... coffee1.gif

And that's one of the many, look at UK Ambassador that for some Thai Newspaper praised the RTP for the perfect investigation, when that has been totally denied from the Ambassador later directly on his Twitter account...

I thought the Junta only allowed FACTS in media reporting. Nowhere in the NNT is there a stated fact (ie., by a personal quote) that UNHCR "applauds" Thailand for its attempt to curb human trafficking.

The only reference anything positive is the statement (albeit it by the reporting with no UN quotes), "the UN considered Thailand as a significant partner in the enhancement of sustainable development that was a primary mission of UN." That is diplomatic language for "Thailand continues to be a problem" and the UNHCR must remain vigilant. Does this mean that misstatements of "facts" are allowable so long as they enhance NCPO's image? If so, that policy would seem to be in direct conflict with Gen. Prayut's own statement that he can be criticized so long as it is factually based.
