Interview in a Chiang Mai Hotel

Featured Replies

HI,

I was just browsing the net yesterday not looking for much specifically when I came across the role of resident manager advertised at one of the top local hotels. I sent over my CV as you do and did not give it any thought. This morning I got a call which my partner took saying I have an interview tomorrow at 10:00. It is one of these roles where advise what salary you would like and then negotiate. I have no idea what a resident manager would earn in Thailand and am struggling to find a similar job on the net. Anyone have any experience in this area that might know?

Many thanks

Not sure how accurate these numbers are but here is a site to give you a general idea. Salaryexplorer

Not clear to me what Resident Manager actually means as opposed to Hotel Manager.

Under Thai law foreigners should have a minimum pay it used to be 35,000 bt may have increased by now

Resident manager is a live in position as normally the manager or general manager has option to live out

Thanks both for your replies and help. I applied for the position to the general manager and would therefore report into him. Very interesting about the 35000 as a minimum I will do some research on that and see if it still applies/has changed.

These are the minimum salaries by country. This is not for the work permit as labor doesn't care but for an extension of stay from immigration based on work.

  • European Countries, Australia, Canada, Japan, and U.S.A. (Baht 50,000/month).
  • South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong (Baht 45,000/month).
  • Asian Countries, South America, Countries in Eastern Europe, Countries in Central America, Mexico, Turkey, Russia and South Africa (Baht 35,000/month).
  • African Countries, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam (Baht 25,000/month).

Sorry being really stupid..is that saying that they will have to pay me a minimum of 50,000 a month for me to get a visa that will allow me to stay?

there is a minimum wage set by labor office as I said it used to be 35,000t but they can use your food allowance and accommodation as part of your salary but they should pay for your work permit as without 1 you can not work when you get visa you will also be able to get visa normally the visa runs with the work permit

It is not set by the labor department as I said before, it is set by immigration as a requirement to get an extension of stay based on work/business.

Thanks all above. Well I got the job and being an idiot and very naive to everything in thailand I originally asked for 20000 it is a senior position but as is the way in thailand they tell you to give them a salary instead of offering one. They know I am British and need the work permit so I guess head office will have to come back with an offer of 50000? They have already said they are sorting out my visa etc.
