Crack Down on Foreign Nationals Storing Dangerous Chemicals in Residential Areas
Picture courtesy of Ministry of Industry The Ministry of Industry has launched a crackdown on a rented house in a community in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, following reports of foreign nationals, believed to be Chinese, illegally storing hazardous chemicals. Local residents expressed concerns over the potential for explosions or fires, fearing a repeat of the “Phachi Warehouse” incident. The house in question is situated in the midst of a densely populated area, which heightened the risks to surrounding communities. Mr. Ekkanat Phromphan, Minister of Industry, revealed that his office had received complaints from locals about suspicious activity involving foreign nationals at a rented residence. The individuals were reportedly transporting and stockpiling unknown chemicals. Fearing a disaster, the ministry sent an inspection team to investigate the premises. The inspection team, led by Ms. Thitiphat Chotdejachai, the Minister’s Special Advisor, along with officials from the Department of Industrial Works, Ayutthaya’s Provincial Industry Office, local police, and other relevant authorities, visited the location on 12 March, in Bang Pa-In district. The facility is believed to be the headquarters of Jianhong Chemical (Thailand) Ltd. Upon inspection, officials discovered that the warehouse was used for the illegal repackaging and storage of dangerous chemicals. Among the findings were chemicals including sodium sulfite, sodium hydroxide, and aluminum chloride, all improperly stored in over 1,700 bags. Additionally, chemicals that are regulated by the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), such as hydrogen peroxide and sodium chlorate, were found improperly stored, violating regulations concerning hazardous substances. Ms. Chotdejachai confirmed that the company had not provided any documentation proving it had received the necessary permits for handling such dangerous chemicals. These findings have led to criminal charges and the seizure of all chemicals involved. The ministry is now working to track the chemicals’ distribution network and prevent them from being used in illicit activities, including the possible production of illegal drugs. As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities also raided a rented house in Ban Sraeng, Ayutthaya, where additional chemicals were found, further linking the operation to the company’s activities. The Ministry of Industry has vowed to continue its proactive approach to prevent the illegal use and distribution of hazardous chemicals, ensuring that measures are in place to protect the safety of the public and bring those responsible to justice. This case highlights the increasing concern over the illegal storage and trafficking of dangerous chemicals, a risk that authorities are taking very seriously in order to safeguard the public from potential disasters. -- 2025-03-14 -

Two Dead in Crash Involving Esan Nakhon Sin Mor Lam Troupe Truck

The event has sent shockwaves through the troupe’s fanbase, with management expressing deep condolences and pledging support for the families of the victims. The incident occurred around noon on 13 March in Khueang Nai District, Ubon Ratchathani. The Esan Nakhon Sin truck was returning from a performance in Khong Chiam the previous night and was travelling towards Roi Et for an evening show. According to reports, the truck was following a covered pickup truck when the latter suddenly swerved away, revealing a stationary ten-wheeler parked on the roadside. The Esan Nakhon Sin truck was unable to stop in time and collided with the rear of the parked lorry. The impact caused the parked vehicle to lurch forward, crushing its owner, who had stepped in front of it to relieve himself. The crash resulted in a second fatality, as one crew member of the Esan Nakhon Sin troupe, who was seated as a passenger, on the left side of the transport truck, was trapped in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene. The Esan Nakhon Sin management team took to social media to express their sorrow, posting: “We extend our deepest sympathies for this tragic loss and send our thoughts and support to the families and all team members.” Fans of the troupe have flooded social media with messages of condolence and encouragement, showing solidarity with the grieving families and the Esan Nakhon Sin team.
