BANGKOK: -- A WOMAN and her taxi-driver boyfriend are set be charged with killing her elderly Japanese husband, mutilating the body and hiding the body parts, after the boyfriend confessed to cutting up his body, the chief police investigator said yesterday.

Charges of restraining freedom and forced larceny could be additionally pressed against Somchai Kaewbangyang and the slain Japanese man's Thai wife Phornchanok Chaiyapa, depending on whether more evidence is found, said Pol Maj-General Phongphan Wannaphak, acting commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1.

Deputy national police chief Pol General Ruengsak Jarit-ek said Somchai had told police that he and Phornchanok jointly killed Yoshinori Shimato, on a date not known yet and through methods police did not detail, before Somchai mutilated the body.

Somchai had earlier confessed to cutting up the body of Shimato, but had insisted he had not killed him. Somchai reportedly told police that he decided to mutilate the victim's body for "fear of criminal prosecution", using a 36cm knife after Shimato fainted during an argument with Phornchanok when he was present. A police source did not reveal whether Somchai had said Shimato fainted and died instantly, or was just unconscious. The officer said the body was mutilated on the second storey of a house in Orchid Village estate in Bang Bo district of Samut Prakan province. A hammer and a knife believed to have been used in the mutilation were found in a pickup truck.

While results of DNA identification of the body parts are awaited, Ruengsak said the body was likely to be that of Shimato, judging from a denture and initial medical records, similarities in the head and Shimato's facial features.

Phongphan added later that DNA identification of the victim's son, Tetsuo Shimato, would also be conducted to determine whether they matched. A re-enactment of both persons' alleged crimes was anticipated yesterday, while gathering of evidence against them is underway, a police source said.

Shimato's son arrived yesterday at the Royal Thai Police headquarters to express his thanks for the speedy arrests in the case, and sought cooperation from Thai media not to pursue their coverage after he returned to Japan with his father's body.

He said he was shocked by the events and was finding it difficult to cope with it emotionally. "Despite the brutal actions [of both Somchai and Phornchanok], I still have good feelings towards Thais and Thailand.

Why any older guy with money can have a considerably younger gf telling him he is a hand-sum man.. meanwhile sharpening her knives before going in for the kill as that way she will have faster access to the cash and does not have to keep telling the guy he is hansum and faking it all the time.

Does not matter if your white / asian / black we can all fall for it. Relationships where people give monthly allowances to the other party and stuff are risky because you attract someone with money and they just might figure out a way to get it without needing you.

Doubtful. It was reported earlier that another of her Japanese husbands met an "accidental death" by falling downstairs. It would appear that she specializes in wealthy Japanese men to finance her relationship with Somchai.

No typo, just a glaringly obvious, deliberate misinterpretation of what the son said by you again. Media coverage is not the same as "the case"

I'm always suprised at how ... surprised white people can be when they realize that both 'sex tourism' and 'love tourism' are not a white prerogative in this country.

Apparently a lot of white people also think that only the big bad white guys are preying on the lovely young Thai girls and boys and that Patpong + Soi Nana are the center of the red light activity in Bangkok (if not the world). How wrong, and how revealing of the white man's arrogant attitude.

Older Asians coming to Thailand looking for sex and/or love with Thais are extremely numerous, but their Asian features mean they don't stand out for the farang eye, thus they become 'invisible'.

Also they tend to go to different venues which cater specifically for them, like Thaniya Plaza in Bangkok for example which focuses on Japanese customers. A whole street just for the Japanese... doesn't that tell us something ? Patpong 1 and 2 + Soi Nana for the whole white lot but a whole street just for the Japanese.

However, what most visitors (white or Asian) do not realize is that the greatest 'sex market' in LOS is designed for Thai men. In several districts of Bangkok there are long sois of gogo bars, one after the other, both straight and gay, which never see a foreigner. If you try to go there, they will make it very clear to you that you're out of place.

And that's only Bangkok. But in the rest of the country, in every single town, big or small, there is a ring of so-called 'karaoke' bars usually located on the outskirts of the city and signalled by multicolored electric garlands, which are of course brothels and nothing else. If those places see 10 white guys in one year, it's a high figure.

So... believe it or not, dear farangs, but white people did not make Thailand what it is.
