BANGKOK: -- Police finally caught up with Nipon Chamroen, an alleged drug lord and hired gun in the South after tailing him for several years.

His assets worth Bt25 million were seized, including Bt1.1 million in cash, a fleet of cars and 54 rai of land.

Permpong Chavalit, secretary-general of the Narcotics Control Board, said yesterday that agents had been following the alleged criminal activities of Nipon since 2010, including robbery, debt-collecting and murder-for-hire.

The police investigation also found evidence that Nipon obtained illicit drugs from the North and delivered them to pushers in Songkhla, Satun, Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani provinces.

On October 9, Songkhla police nabbed 10 of his alleged accomplices, seized 20,070 yaba pills and 538 grams of "ice" along with weapons and ammunition, he said.

The gang implicated Nipon as the supplier of drugs, so police secured an arrest warrant for him.

After finally getting a tip-off on Nipon's address in a housing estate in Pathum Thani's Muang district and his temporary hideout in Kanchanaburi's Sai Yok district, police and Army operatives launched |the hunt to trace and capture him, he said.

On Monday, Nipon, his younger brother and a woman who reportedly was his third wife drove a car to a food centre in Pathum Thani.

Police showed up to arrest him and confiscated his gun and ammunition, Permpong said. They later searched the wife's house in Pathum Thani and then fanned out to seize assets at eight locations in Pathum Thani, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla provinces.

However, they say Nipon only gave a partial confession, admitting that he was dealing drugs to get money for his farming business but denied any killing on contract.

So, let's see if I understand this . . . They tailed this guy for TWO YEARS and all they can do is obtain a confession for selling drugs! Incredibly adept police work! And this guy is being dubbed a drug LORD! Criminals in Thailand better beware, Thai police are scary good. cheesy.gif

Inept police work at it's finest!!

Tailing him for years...allowing to continue his drug dealing and other rotten acts......allowing the misery this PoS caused to so many, to continue unabated for so long.....is just disgraceful and a further damaging blight to Thailand.

One drug-lord down a couple thousand to go.

Everyone below this character get to move up a notch. Until he pays his "get out of jail" fee. Then it's back to normal.

As long as there is a demand, and people will pay the price, there is a lot of money to be made from the illegal drug trade and many who don't care how they make it. My own belief is the government should officially enter the drug trade and price the mafia out of business. The money from government drug sales will be going into government coffers where it can be used to help those who don't know how to control their drug use and the drug mafia, who doesn't pay taxes on their drug profits, will go out of business. This will lead to needing fewer drug cops and there will be less corruption of the police, courts, et. al. from illicit drug money. Cheap drugs will also cut down on petty theft by drug addicts who can't afford the high prices the mafia charges and will lower insurance rates in the process, further reducing the need for detectives to hunt down all those petty thieves. Control the trade, isolate and help the unfortunate percent of drug uses who don't know when to stop. Most people will not use those drugs even if they are legalized. I, personally, wouldn't take those illegal drugs even if they were free and delivered to my house.

I and several Australian Police Officers I have met would agree that chasing petty drug criminals is a waste of time and money and better spent on real crime. Legalise and regulate the purity and strength which will cut down on the ODs, lowering the price will reduce break-ins, thefts, armed robberies and force prostitution. Plus government can earn some extra tax revenue.

Why are drug takers always called 'druggie scum' on this forum, but the ones who sold them the drugs are LORDS. Like war LORDS and TZARS (puff out chest emoticon needed).

Too many Boy's Owns some never grew out of.
