Live in northern Thailand for the last 7 years and this December my Thai Gf and I want to visit Phuket. Not interested in nightlife but would like to try snorkeling. Want to stay away from the very crowded areas but still have a choice of restaurants nearby. About 1000 baht a night for a room. Any suggestions on a decent place. Cheers

Try Chalong as there should be rooms available at that price plus dive shops, boat tours & a good variety of restaurants are all there as well. You will still need your own transport to get around especially if you do want to visit a nice beach such as Nai Harn.

Check out Koh Yao Yai island. Very chilled out and there's meant to be good diving around the island so you will be able to snorkel. There's a previous thread on this forum about Yao Yai.

there are many places quite close to Nai Harn that are advertising 800b/night. i would stay a bit closer to the beach than Chalong myself
