Where to find wood bar top for new house kitchen?

Hi,

Does anyone know where in, or around, Chiang Mai to find a largish wood slab suitable for a small counter-bar top? My wife and I are nearly finished building a house in Doi Saket and the builder wants us to finalize the kitchen. I have seen before large slabs of Monkey Pod wood but I cannot for the life of me remember where.

Yesterday we were in Home Sukhapan and they had some Monkey Pod slab tables for sale, but the price seemed rather high at B22,000. Basically I am looking for a piece about 2 meters long by 60cm - 70cm wide and approx 8cm thick. The tables at Home Sukhapan were about that long, but much wider than I need.

Here is a link to a pic of the type of would I am referring to:

I believe Monkey Pod is the wood from the Rain Tree. Those things grow like weeds here, so I would have thought the price for that wouldn't be too high. But who knows these days....

Thanks for any advice!

that timber is mai pado or burmese rose i think middle range hard wood very durable at 22.000 a bit over the top but you could always buy a tree and get it made up by a local middle range compared to say teak you wont put a nail init unless you drill a hole first

The place you are looking for is East of Baan Twai on the North side of the road before you get to the Ping river. When I can get to my computer, I'll give you the exact coordinates. This place specifically makes large tables, chairs etc. out of large slabs of monkey pod.

Sounds good. Any idea how far past Ban Tawai?

Thanks

Here are the Google maps coordinates for the place that I seen about a year ago with all the monkey pod wood furniture.

18.682387, 98.979493

Just copy and paste these into Google maps and it will show you exactly where it is located at. I think an old sign there said something about a fruit company. I haven't been back there in a while though. I find it easier to follow the road along the West side of the Ping river and turn West to get there.

Thanks for the coordinates. I will have a look today and report back.
