Limes and Kaffir Limes

Featured Replies

More questions from the ignorant to the informed - at least where gardening is concerned.

I'd like to buy a couple of lime trees and one makrut tree (kaffir lime). I guess Kamthieng market, but how big can I get them - I'd like 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Is that possible? And any advice on possible prices?

While I am displaying my lack of horticultural knowledge, what about papaya? Can one buy these as small 'trees', or must they be grown as shoots of from seed?

As usual, any advice would be most gratefully received.

One of my daughters bought some land in Saraphi - a lumyai orchard that we've diversified with other fruit trees.

Last year I bought ten small lime seedlings at Kamthieng for 40 - 50 baht each. The alternative was fairly large trees at 1000+ baht each.

Of the ten I planted, seven survived, and two flourished, bearing fruit already and are nearly three metres high. The others look healthy enough, but are still quite small.

I never knew that kaffir limes were makruts. Thanks for that bit of information.

Don't bother with seedlings for papaya - they grow very fast - just plant the seeds. But use the seeds from a tasty one.

Choke dee.
