Just spoke to a mate who has gone back to Australia until March next year. he wants to know what his options are for getting his 5 year licence as his 1 year licence will expire in January and he won't be able to apply until he gets back. Does he have to get another 1 year licence and go through the same procedures again, ie the colour blindness, reaction and perception tests, or will he be able to apply for a 5 year with a two month expired 1 year licence?

I have just renewed my 5 year licence after it had expired for 3 months not a problem. You still have to do the eye tests and other procedures and also watch a 2 hour video.

Some DLT's change things but I don't see a problem with expired 1 year Thai DL to get a 5 year one.

He will still be tested for some of the things in i.e. what you mention and any renewal on further 5 year ones.
