Songkhla weather radar malfunction

Featured Replies

The weather radar at Sating Phra (north of Songkhla Town) has been out for over a week now.

I wonder why it is taking so long to fix.

I also wonder why so few Thais I speak to (all university students) are completely unaware of its existence.

Anyway, if it goes on much longer I will try to find out myself. It's very useful (when it is working).

Yes that one and Chumporn radar needs a program update, looks like the program is corrupted, use to be great a year or so ago.

Both definitely useful to Southern Thai residents. The Samui radar has never worked since they posted it on TMD!

I just called the TMD office in Songkhla Town and the officer said mechanics were working on it and the ETA for completion of repairs is "two more days".

Interesting.

The old 120km-range radar has been replaced by a 240km version (although they fail to mention this fact on the scroll list).

The new version looks really good, but I don't know why they replaced the existing one rather than give two options, like you get at Phuket and Suvarnabhumi Airport.

At any rate, no end in sight for all the rain we are having.

Radar back down for over a week again. Maybe they reckon they should save energy now that the monsoon has ended.
