ICT ministry to cooperate with US firms to produce new tablets



BANGKOK: -- The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology will cooperate with US-based technology firms to produce a new brand of cheap tablets for Thai consumers.

ICT Minister Pornchai Rujiprapa said Wednesday that he had a chance to meet with executives of Microsoft, Google and Seagate a recent meeting in Bangkok between Thai and American investors and the tablet project was raised with the Americans with the hope that they would offer a helping hand to make the tablet project a reality.

The minister said that the ICT ministry would propose the Digital Economy draft bill to the National Legislative Assembly. The bill seeks to empower the ICT ministry to set up a committee to push for the realisation of digital economy project.
