Where to but Frangipani trees?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy some frangipani and perhaps other flowering trees, 1-2 metres high. Any advice as to the best place and possible price range would be very much appreciated.

If you know someone in your area that has decent size Frangipani trees ,and has the

colour of flowers you like, ask them for a branch,or 2, that is forked at the top, leave it

on the ground for a few days and then plant it in position you want, the leaves will all

die off, but in a few weeks they will start to grow again, and once they get established

they grow pretty fast.its really easy, no need to buy them.

regards worgeordie

^ Yes, easy to grow like that.

Or if you really want to buy them then there are plenty at Kham Thiang market, near the Tesco Lotus on the Superhighway. Those tend to have been grafted, so a desirable color of flower on to a tree with a good root system. They might settle better than just ripping off a branch from an existing tree and sticking it in the ground after 2-3 days. ;)

Choose the kind of trees carefully, some become very very large and too big for many places. Frangipani are not in this group, they are small.

There are dozens of different colors and some are aromatic and some not. Decide on the color you like and take a look around. Kamthieng has quite a few. We bought two and another we did like worgordie suggested as it was a fairly rare variant. That was 7 years ago. They are very large today.

Oh and every year in Chiang mai they will get this fungus at certain times of the year. It looks like rust, but won't kill the tree but it will lose most or all of its leaves and flowers. They talk about it often in the plant forum. You can get the chemical to spray on it at Kamthieng market.

Enjoy.

Many thanks, guys. Any views on prices?

prices are highly variable depending on the color, fragrance, rarity and of course size
