Forum mobilizes young people against corruption

BANGKOK, 12 November 2014 (NNT) - A public forum investigating ways to tackle corruption says corruption has become a deeply-rooted problem in Thai society. The event is being held by the Thai Higher Education Institution.

Director of the Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand (ACT) Mana Nimitmongkol stated that corruption is rampant throughout every organization in Thailand.

Statistics reveal that only 20 percent of civil servants were free from corruption. As for the private sector, more than 80 percent of employees have been allegedly involved in corruption. Politicians are also no exception, as they are often guilty of manipulating the state budget.

For this reason, the Director said it is essential that members of the public are allowed to investigate government spending activities in order to ensure transparency and to protect the welfare of the nation.

According to National Legislative Assembly (NLA) member Klanarong Chantik, corruption causes huge losses to the country. Therefore, it is of paramount importance that people working across all sectors be aware of the problem, from university students to high-ranking civil servants.

the major partner was a police officer near KK he offered the share to her

he wanted her to take me to have a look at the gambling den,, i wouldnt go near the place

i dont want any part of it,,

the story is,,

he pays the police department where he works 1.3 mil each month

also a payment goes to the army .. so no chance of getting caught ,,

the major partner was a police officer near KK he offered the share to her

he wanted her to take me to have a look at the gambling den,, i wouldnt go near the place

i dont want any part of it,,

the story is,,

we have a policeman in our street. He has a big house.....well it is a palace, 3 new looking Mercedes and one other car (for 2 people, he and his wife). Several times per day the police comes with the alarm light turned on to check the safety of his house.

During the floods in 2011 he ran, but had a couple of policemen inside (day and night as they didn't leave) for 1 month to protect against thefts....

All financed from his salary

Let's mobilse young people against corruption so right then -

you have to attend classes, study and actually pass exams and your family can't buy grades for you.

if you get into trouble the family won't call on connections or flash the cash to get you out.

Yeah...its funny..in my GFs village the biggest houses also belongs to Policemen....

Being cynical is understandable but it doesn't help much.

Why not open some website(s) - use a proxyserver or let a friend on another continent do it. There publish pictures of the wealth of those policemen (big houses, expensive cars) plus clear pics of the guys themselves. Then ask the question how that is possible. Publish the names of the corrupt coppers and armyboys member thedoctor says he has.

Post the link to the site(s) all over Facebook. Then see how things develop. There are many clear cases of corrupt ones. Publicise them. An army general claiming proudly to be a selfmade man as he and the wife come from poor families. Yet the family lives in a millionaires home and drives a Ferrari in his free time. Pictures of that surely would raise tempers.

But surveys say that Thais get involved in corruption from a very early age and over 80% admit to cheating in exams and signing class rosters for absent friends and can't see anything wrong with it. Pollsters say that role models such as family members, police, military, other civil servants and politicians have a big influence in shaping the attitudes of Thai youth. Better clean out the whole society and start again.

I once asked a newspaper reporter: "Why aren't there any investigative reporters in Thailand?"

He responded: They are all dead!"

Due to the slander and libel laws. Be very careful to publish anything. Even if it is true.!

If every corrupt person in this country would face detention, you have to build a big fence around it and let the other 130 people leave to a country of their choice.

they are harping on about corruption because tourismus down and corruptions been in the news lately for obvious reasons.

Director of the Anti-Corruption Organization made this statement publicly. I think we should see this as a positive thing. I am guessing high level police officers are being scrutinized.

oops, probably should not have admitted that about every organization, cause one of them is "cleaning up" even as we speak.

IMO Thailand can NOT function WITHOUT corruption. Can not can not can not.

And certainly will NOT.

Fortunately there's no corruption in the military, or at least no desire to look for corruption in the military:

Near our house the same. Senior cop, unpleasant, big house, many private, some quite expensive vehicles plus numerous police cars (luxury and others, pick ups etc, all with police insignia), often parked there unused for days at a time, often blocking driveways of neighbors. His wife often drives one big police car for shopping, seen many times parking the car in Big C carpark etc.

Cop has 12 civilian employees coming and going 24 hrs a day, often driving the police vehicles. One expensive cop car with insignia driven every day by civilian to take kids to and from school, siren turned on to school and in school grounds, and siren on when returning from school and through our village.

Thai neighbors are waiting for the day the military turns up.

Members of the public investigate? That's one hell of a statement considering the level of education where many can't read or write and need a calculator for simply math. Corruption will continue as long as those in the elite quarter can hang on to power ... still if you don't like the government there's always a coup to fall back on.

There's little hope of Thailand every coming out of the darkness. Wait until the ASEAN agreement needs signing ... guaranteed it'll be the same message ... Thailand is not ready and they gov are going to take measures by increasing education level, blah, blah, blah. Two morons and a monkey could run this country better.

So they are both as bad as each other ( public and private).....
