The only time the old hands bother me is when it seems like they don't realize younger guys are playing a different game here. Our TH is not the same place. Also, the guys that never worked and had to survive here have absolutely had a different experience. That being said, some things never change in TH. Or they've seen a TH we will never know... Some of those guys have Thai wives/families too, giving us perspective and insight we might never have.

Explain to me to what the different game is. I was here when young and worked with other young professionals..not it great volume but there was a young professional group here 25 years ago.

Infact there were very few older people here then..they were the exception.

Same in the old days go to the night places at closing and stand around smoking an American cigarette and a girl would latch on to you, as far as websites go they werenot there but from the 90's on I used to meet them online while in Canada and when I came here, would call them. Some just came to my room never even took them out to eat I was in my 50's then though. Everything from government workers to hotel clerks. Guys who came here regularly were considered rich and many a girl would pursue us. Thats why they were online.

That all said I envy how it is for you young guys now with the help of the internet. That is definitely an advantage over the old days. So go out there and enjoy.

Umm ... well, I've personally lived round the world, specifically, London, the USA and Ireland, plus, of course, Australia.

Certainly don't know everything, but a fairly broad brush experience.

But the experiences that the guys who had travelled here before me certainly smoothed my time in Thailand.

A lot of that experience was from those who I would describe as 'old hands'.

Plus, it's not just the negatives ... consider also the positives ... the stories that you read and think ... shit, I want to do that one day.

Maybe even you SoiBiker, have written of an experience and I would have noted and learned for it.

and definately met a few old hands.[they did make lite work]

Case in Point #1.

Sitting by the roof pool imbuing those 'free drinks' the Hotel put on @ Sunset (those were the days).

Overheard a conversation about Visa Runs.

One guy was leaving the next day to Visa run to Cambodia.

They invited me into the conversation, picked up my accent and quickly came up the ... 'whoa there Colonial Boy ... you only get 2 weeks ... we Soap Dodgers get the 30 days for a land crossing' ... or words to that effect.

They were old 'hands' ... I learnt a valuable lesson.

Were they Thai Visa members ... who knows ... maybe.

There's those guys, and the holier-than-thou types that love to remind all of us how their girl isn't like that. But there's also a lot truly insightful members. If there wasn't, would any of use the forum? I personally don't care how old someone is or how long they've lived in TH, as long as their posts are informative or thought provoking (even if I don't agree with it). That being said, there are a few apparently older members that know their stuff and I appreciate the Hell out of those guys.
