Dog Friendly Areas to Stay

Featured Replies

We are looking at coming to Chiang Mai for a few months from Koh Samui. We will come in a couple of weeks to try to check out suitable accommodation and then come back from early next year. The main issue is that we will be bringing the dog and need to stay somewhere where we can take him for some nice walks without the hassle of loads of street dogs. We like to take him for a reasonable bit of exercise in the morning (30-60 mins usually to a quiet beach or in coconut plantations) and a couple of other short walks later in the day. We don't mind driving him a bit for his morning walk.

Would really appreciate any suggestions on areas which might be worth investigating or good places to walk a dog around Chiang Mai.

Thanks

Not too many beaches around here!

We live on estate that is very large and plenty of room to walk your dog as do many others every day.

Still some nice open areas.

You might look around Hang Dong, south of chiang mai city. It will be difficult to find good rentals for less than one year but maybe possible. Lots of open space for dog walking.

Keep in mind the smokey season can be anywhere from feb - apr...June and after is quite nice when the rainy season hits...

As to low soi dog activity, try gated moo baans...land & houses moo baan on Mae Jo road has virtually zero soi dogs and alot of community space to walk dogs...you will meet many dog walkers..

Surprised me but it does have monthly rentals but best to check availability with agents...

Tung Tao reservoir is a great location to walk dogs around the lake or using the lake as a swimming activity..our dogs love it..some soi dog families on the west side of lake but just a minor inconvenience at worst..good size so ample isolated shoreline away from human activity...

Thanks a lot for the very helpful replies.

Sounds like some good suggestions to check out. Gated community sounds a good idea to get his short walks. Reservoir sounds great as out lad loves to swim. Had forgotten about the smoke but our timing is flexible so can try to avoid the worst of that.
