Nice Places to Visit in Isaan

Featured Replies

Hey,

Can anyone recommend nice places to visit in Isaan. Wouldn't mind a break away now and again.

Open to all suggestion, but cool climate with mountains would be the good lady's preference! haha

Cheers!

Nakhon Phanom on the Mekong where I spend the Winter is very nice with views of the mountains in Laos. Has been cooler and will be cooler again Im sure but quite hot this week. U can check the weather here on BBC.co.uk/weather/

Enjoy your Esaan trip.

Thanks! Might try there!

Try the Loei area. It is in the mountains and a rather pleasant city.

Hey Sunset, you didn't tell him about yer flip-flops and detachable leggings.

Joking aside, the best place on the river ...........

you could try Tad Ton waterfall and the stone henge of Thailand both located in Chiyaphum.

Also while in Chaiyaphum , venture to Phu Khiao wide life park, you will enjoy the views and wide life , not to mention the cool breeze, this time of year.

Don´t know if count for Issan, but follow the river from Nong khai to Nan should be a nice trip.

Depending you don´t need a/c everynight and open to signlaunge, hehe

Amja

Do you live in Issan?

What areas are you already familiar with?

"Cool" sounds like will need to head north...Duh on me 555

I'm interested in what replies you get here.

I live near Khort and am always looking for new places to check out.

I recently posted a thread asking about little known places to check out and got more replies from people "slamming " me saying that it would be foolish to share information about nice places.

There is no shortage of selfish on TV!

Anyway, more details about what kind of place you are looking for and maybe I can help a little.

Choke dee!

Well yes, my knobbly knees exercising along the promenade at sunset might be an added attraction.............smile.png !

Hey Riepan, Why dont u recommend a trip following the river North to Nong Khai?

Google Thai House - Isaan, it is on highway 12 the west end of Mukdahan, Google Maps, still calls it highway 2042. The area is nice, the guesthouse is nice with a small pool. The owner an Australian, and his Thai wife, can take you on tours all over the area and show you interesting places and explain the culture. I have nothing to do with the guest house, but the owner is a friend of mine, and I go to his monthly barbecue. Oh yes if you like good steak, he has them.

Thanks to al the posters so far! Some good ones!

We stay in Ubon Ratchathni. The wife was talking about Chiang Mai for New Year, but i don't think i will get enough time off work to go way up there, so i though maybe there are some nice places around good old Isaan to visit instead.

She prefers cooler weather and so i thought somewhere with mountains would be nice.

We ain't been anywhere in Isaan, expect Ubon, lol.smile.png (Which, by the way, is a very nice place if you like fields, forests and rivers!)

At New Year's you won't have to worry about cold weather anywhere in Isaan, you will have wished you headed south. Is this your first year in Ubon?

You must not be climatised as my cojones turn blue for few weeks. tongue.png

I meant the weather would be cold, which is what he said he was looking for. Personally I'd rather be in the south at New Year's, I hate the cold, and for me below 25 in the day and 20 at night is cold.
