BANGKOK: -- Two more suspects allegedly linked with Pol Lt-Gen Pongpat Chayapan’s criminal network have been arrested.

The two suspects, Natthanan Thanavech and Chalat Pothirath, were arrested at a house in Din Daeng area on charges of extortion, assault, coercion and lese majeste. Police claimed that they confessed to the charges.

Pol Lt-Gen Prawuth Thavornsiri, spokesman of the National Police Office, said today that the two suspects attempted to abduct Mr Bundit Chotewitthayakyul to force him to reduce the amount of debt lent to Mr Nopporn Supapipat from 120 million baht to 20 million baht but the creditor declined.

The two suspects tried to abduct the victim for the second time when they later met at a restaurant in Buddha Monthon area and this time the suspects claimed they had connection with the palace, said the spokesman.

Chalat, one of the suspects, told police that he was just a driver of Mr Chakarn Parkpoom who was earlier arrested by police. He claimed that he simply acted on the order of his boss to bring the victim to the restaurant for talks and was given 4,000 baht for the job.

Police are still looking for three more suspects namely Witthaya Thetkhunthod, Seergeant Nathakorn Yasri and Sergeant Thirapong Chorchampee.

They could not really have been serious,as they would

just have snuffed Mr. Bundit out, then there would have

been no debit to pay, thats the usual Thai way to do it,

they are just tiny pawns in a very big game.

The great majority of Thais seem to confess to a crime in a heartbeat? I expect they know there is little chase of the courts finding them non-guilty (even if they are innocent)) plus they know a confession usually halves the prison time or reduces a death sentence to life in prison...and then the various govt pardons, sentence reductions, good behavior time, etc., come into play which further reduces the prison time. Out of prison and back applying their trade in quick time. Kinda like the guy who murdered his wife, hacked her body up in pieces, and he was out of prison in around 7 years.

Goodness me. The Junta are about as effective in cleaning out the police force as they were about confiscating guns.

They confiscating illegal weapons in 2 months that equated to 10% of all weapons finds in 14 years. Now they are sweeping up the corruption and trash in the police force.

Well done on them for showing sincerity in achieving the goals they set out to achieve.

They are doing something neither political party has been able or willing to do.

Funny that some have been complaining about the Thai police corruption ad nauseam for years on this forum and complaining that no one is every arrested. Well here it is folks and when it happens the same faces still complain simply because it paints the Junta in a good light. I bet if yingluck did this the cheering and bleating of red apologists would be deafening!!!

Amazing Thailand.

It has nothing to do with Police corruption. wai2.gifwai.gif

Perhaps more research is in order for you?

Thank you for reinforcing my point.

I think I am the last person on here that could be accused of being a "red apologist" ... in that light, let me also say this has absolutely nothing to do with cleaning up corruption ... you really do need to read up on seemingly unrelated recent new posts and connect the dots ... and as and when they start cleaning up the "Democrat/yellow" supporters/financiers also, then I'll start congratulating them.

You need to follow what is being said in the Thai media right now. It is not the police or politicians. I can't say more than that. Get a Thai to translate for you

Yes we want to see corruption eradicated, but want the enforcers to be colourblind!!

Yes, it is good that the police are being brought to light, but we know every criminal activity taken away from the police, is absorbed my the army. The police and army are the two biggest mafia families in thailand. Would cheer a little louder if an actually non-corrupt entity was in charge.

Methinks that the majority of these quick confessions are made under duress.

A couple of small fish shown to the public to divert attention from the real issue!!coffee1.gif

I'm not sure what to find more scary: The scale of the misdoings in this case; The reason behind it's disclosure; That there may well be many other larger misdoings taking place; or The fact that no wholesale cleanup of the police seems to be on the agenda.

Without meaningful police reform, all other reforms are meaningless.
