I was born in England ... many years ago now! My wife, who is Thai, gained British Citizenship around 2005 and holds a British Passport. She has a 30+ year old daughter.

Today, someone told me that she is eligible for a UK Passport ... is that correct please? If so, I wish that I had known earlier as it would have saved me a lot of money when she did her masters in the UK

Thanks

You have been misinformed.

As her daughter was over 18 when your wife was naturalised as British then she was not eligible to apply for registration as British on the back of her mother being naturalised as such. She would have had to qualify in her own right.

Even if she were under 18 at the time, then she would need to have be living in the UK with ILR, or the equivalent, with her mother in order apply.

Thanks ... after I posted I searched and found the rules regarding 'by descent'. Yes the guy was incorrect .. he talked a good talk though!
