BANGKOK, Dec 3 -- Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn said the Thai government welcomes all reform ideas from everyone, including those within the country, Thais living abroad andr from the international community.

The deputy premier told the press after the opening ceremony of the "On the Path to Reform Forum", at the Shangri-la Hotel Wednesday, that Thailand is aiming to create a stage for both domestic and international agencies to voice their ideas and opinions on Thailand's reform paths.

The deputy prime minister said the forum is the first of its kind, and that the government would continue to hold such forums in all sectors, as they are considered as important steps in creating an understanding of the government's reform policies.

Gen Tanasak said all good ideas and opinions would be gathered and would be continually developed in order to find the best method for reform. He affirmed that the government would listen to all parties, where the opinions and ideas from Thais living abroad would be collected by each country respective Royal Thai embassy and forwarded to the National Reform Council (NRC).

Meanwhile, National Legislative Assembly (NLA) President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said every move that Thailand makes is seen by the international community, so it is vital to welcome the ideas and opinions from the rest of the world.

Welcoming ideas from other countries does not mean we have to follow everything they suggest but should adjust what has been shared with us to suit the system and the style of Thai society without neglecting international principles. (MCOT online news)

The international community doesn't have to worry about responding as comments / statements will be made for them and to date the PM says every country he's visited supports what's being done.

By extension everyone will support any proposed reforms so that can be announced on their behalf when appropriate.. Job done !

What a load of BS ... if they were that interested then a couple of hours on ThaiVisa would give them a clear insight as to what people think and sensible and realistic solutions to almost all of the problems.

It ain't rocket science but nothing will change whilst they continue with their xenophobic, nationalistic and protectionist agenda.

how about "hold an election"?

Hire Imelda Marcos : she might be able to tell you not only about "holding elections" but also "winning elections" (her husband and his party won all the elections in which they participated)giggle.gif

This is another example of open-mindedness and sincerity that no one can deny. In keeping with such a generous gesture I suggest--

  • Visitors to Thailand must take a Thai speaking and reading test at Immigration checkpoints or be banned from the country. A card will be issued showing proficiency, and this also serves as an English Teaching license!
  • Businessmen must clearly understand Thai values before negotiations can even be considered, and the Thai Culture Course would be mandatory, convenient, and only 3 million baht per day for one week (although remedial lessons may be required).
  • All jet ski operators should henceforth hold a lottery each day, and whichever foreigner draws the short straw has to pay 5-10,000 baht bad luck taxes.
  • Visiting foreigners must submit financial disclosure statements with Immigration so Thais don't waste any more time trying to get blood from stones (and backpackers).
  • Visiting foreigners must be banned from having sex with Thai nationals. After all, only Chinese sperm ever invaded and occupied this pure and unique country.
  • All foreign nations must acknowledge that the title "Auld Lang Syne" is an infringement of copyright, and a theft of cultural assets that were contributed by the Prime Minister himself!
  • The Tourism Authority will launch a new campaign -- "Thais Put the Fun Back In DysFunctional!"

Ok, my opinion ..... Have a zero tolerance on corruption in all its forms and enforce the laws and everything else will fall in place.

Was "fall in place" a Freudian slip predicting collapse/failure or just poor grammar?

Yes. I was about to post this:

We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them

oh for crap sake, these guys... the problems haven't been in your constitution. The problem is in your rule of law, it just not up to the task of supporting anything you put in this new one.

If you do not like the way the game is played, the other side dismantles the democracy and its checks and balances. When in fact it is better to protect and enforce those balances, in the case you cannot win sits in government cause you do not know how, you don't have to suffer a runaway kleptocracy or whatever.

The RTP needs to get with the program, and it itself needs it broad sweeping rights restricted and furthermore splitting up the organization along its operational lines would reduce it as a seat of power, much like the army.

I would like to thank the red-shirts here for reminding just how extreme their double standards are.

Let me remind you what Pheu-Thai did when they tried to involve the international community.. They created a big fuss about a reconciliation forum with Poo smiling at Blair and the other B-list foreigners who they invited to show off on TV. The overwhelming message was 'do not force things onto the people they do not want'. Then, within the week, the cronies back at base rammed the amnesty bill through.

You people should shut up, stop whining and let some other people with at least a shred honour and dignity have a go at sorting out this mess. They could not possibly do any worse.

If you insist on posting, please try to avoid sounding like spoilt schoolboys who had their toys confiscated.

'It is unclear whether the Thai Royal Police force has a Police Social Media Protocols or Guidelines. From the handling of the Koh Tao murders, one might safely conclude there are no such guidelines for social media, or if there are such guidelines they have been so loosely applied as to be meaningless. These murders have revealed that the Thai police procedures, policies and guidelines are ripe for reform to bring them into the digital age.'

'At best it can be said the Koh Tao investigation has been shambolic, with conflicting statements about motives, the alleged wearing of a bikini by the female victim, evidence of the murder weapon, identity of possible suspects, reports of sealing the island, mass testing of DNA, including old and young migrant women, and participation of foreign forensic experts to assist the local police.' http://www.internationalcrimeauthors.com/?p=6004

The Thai Police force needs reform to cope with at least some best practice procedure.

"When someone is attacked for corruption, wife beating, drug addiction, meanness, pettiness it diminishes their reputation. There are defamation laws to protect reputation. And in Thailand there are not just civil laws, but criminal defamation laws that will send someone who attacks another person, say for human trafficking, to prison. The state is enlisted as a protector of individual reputations. Reputation is these cases overrides facts that support the person was a fraud or charlatan. Criminal defamation makes them bullet proof; facts and evidence bounce off the plaintiff’s chest like bullets hitting superman." http://www.internationalcrimeauthors.com/?p=6134

The need to change defermation laws that protect the guilty from bing named and shamed.

Do you think they will listen?

Since my opinion is now welcome, lose the attitude Thailand. Only Thai people think they are the cat's ass of the world for never being occupied. Guess what, nobody cares. You are not seen as the holy sacred warriors of superiority of the world, but only the contrary and reality; a country that doesn't function run by criminals with no future.

Once Thailand can get past its pride and join the rest of the world, only then will they see the light.
