Well at least it might put people off coming here on holiday.

Can anyone get rid of all those business destroying idiots please?

Enforce the existing laws, i.e. drunk driving etc. and leave the rest to deal with their life as grown-up people. Pathetic

As others have stated, this applies to public places only. Bars, clubs, restaurants, golf clubs, convenience stores etc will be selling alcohol as normal.

Not a bad idea IMHO.

Golf tours in Thailand - Twitter @solargolf @pattaya_golf

"Looks set to...". Hmmm, anyone might think that threads like this are a good way of generating Forum hits!

i always take a few beers to the the beach and watch the fireworks on NY eve. alsways fun and never a problem. so what now, the police are going to be roming the beaches telling tousands of people to throw their booze away?

They mean ban drinking on the street?

Whoop whoop! At last someone that actually reads...

I guess it's easier to ban booze than make Thais become more responsible drinkers / drivers. I'll certainly be blaming law enforcement - again - for the road carnage this year. Forget the 400 baht fine. Try 5000 baht and vehicle confiscation for a month. But no, it won't happen. The solution is quite simple really..The Dunning-Kruger effect is well and alive in LoSlaugh.png

Ah what the h3ll. Just change the national religion to Islam coffee1.gif

Well, I am from a country majority of people are Muslim. People can drink freely anytime anywhere is allowed which are retaurants, bars etc etc. you can buy alcohol anytime from and liquor shop or market. Although public drinking is illegal there places that many people drink freely and dont bother nobody. Even in Ramadan, nothing changes.

might reduce the road fatalities somewhat.

Nope. A public place is where the public can gather, which can also mean a bar or restaurant.

You think this ban would be put in place to stop drinking in a public park ?? :-)

So to reiterate, a public place means anyone can go into it. A private place means you

need an invitiation. So unless you need an invitation to drink at your local bar,

you are in a public place.... What they are doing is no different than the endless religious holidays

that have a ban on alcohol. Except now they are targeting a farang holiday.... cheesy.gif

http://definitions.uslegal.com/p/public-place/

"A public place is generally an indoor or outdoor area, whether privately or publicly owned, to which the public have access by right or by invitation, expressed or implied, whether by payment of money or not, but not a place when used exclusively by one or more individuals for a private gathering or other personal purpose.

You sure they did not mean driving. That would be great. Lot of lives would be saved

They already do this, the Queens birthday the bars are closed. Friday is the Kings Birthday, December 5th. See if you can buy ALCOHOL .

cheesy.gifclap2.gifburp.gifdrunk.gif Better stock up today !!!!!!!

Maybe it would be a better idea to prohibit the shootings with weapons in public.
Particularly on new years eve.

Another crack down on Tourism .......

Tourism in Thailand is estimated to be down in 2014 by a factor of 20% from the year before. Harassment of western visitors is apparently a pastime determined to increase the number of international visitors that see Thailand, once considered a country friendly to visitors, as a country pushed further and further down the destination bucket list.

When there wil be a crack down on stupid officials ?

Do they state anywhere what is defined as a "Public Place"?

Only a couple I can think of:

Public places, so that means you can drink in a pub etc, yes or no?

You, unlike half the half wits on the forum, have hit the nail on the head. Restaurant and Bars are not public places, but the streets, squares, bus stations, railway stations and the like are public places. Do wish more people would read more carefully what is written angry.png.pagespeed.ce.Cla6z9sEn6HzEDnCl

I have been looking to a have one of those laughs that don't stop for a long time. I will be smiling as I go to bed tonight. Thank you for this utter nonsense. I also suggest no sex during this time, including between husband and wife, and free food for everyone!

Thiis gets proposed every year but has not been implemented.....what I would propose is that anyone caught drunk driving or causing accident during these periods be sent to jail for a year...then there might be fewer accidents in holidays in the future,

Why ban alcohol for the 97% who are not driving drunk ?

Which New year are they referring to, The Thai or the westeren. If the latter, I think it will severely hurt the tourist industry if you can´t get a drink at your local restaurant or pub, on the largest drinking day of the year....

A sensible response.

Unfortunately Thais are not s sensible.

Before you call other people names, public places are also the parks in Naklua which will be crowded with people having picnics, and those on the beach enjoying the fireworks. The list of public places where alcohol is consumed is huge. Do you advocate fathers being dragged from the New Years Fireworks Show for having a beer. Indeed, I can think of many names to throw back. Try not to be confrontational.

But most Thai Muslims I know are terrible piss artists.

Good , go one step further , ban alcohol in the kingdom .clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

All this does is tell the people the government sucks and they'll ignore anything that comes from that direction afterwards. Nice going.

What constitutes a 'public place' in Thailand ?

Is it the street or park ? Or does it mean bars and restaurants ?

This sounds like a fun New years NOT !!

Read the full thread people. It clearly says PUBLIC places. That means on the street, in parks at the Zoo etc. It doesn't mean bars and clubs.

Is the inside of a private motor vehicle a private place, where drinking will be allowed?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
