Officials order Panasonic warehouse in Khon Kaen closed for 90 days

KHON KEAN, 5 Dec 2014, (NNT) - The Provincial Industry Office in Khon Kaen has ordered the warehouse belonging to Panasonic parts manufacturer that caught fire on Wednesday night closed for 90 days.

According to the Office, the fire reportedly destroyed more than 50 percent of the building, thus renovation is in order.

However, the factory’s manufacturing facility remain in operation normally as it is not damaged.

The Office also instructed the factory to properly dispose of waste from the blaze in a proper manner as required by the Industrial Waste Disposal Act.

Regarding the water used to extinguish the fire, the Office has assured the public that it is being handled properly and that it would not affect nearby communities, adding that it is also being tested for contamination. The results should be completed and reported back to the Office within 2 weeks' time. Khon Kean officials suspected that an electrical short circuit caused the blaze.

.....seems a lot of foreign manufacturers are meeting with mishaps lately....

....brings to mind....why did we never hear any more on the Tata Trucks executive that 'flew off a building'......

Given the amount of toxic waste that is dumped here, there and everywhere, by Thai companies, perhaps it's time that authorities countrywide imposed the requirements of the IWDA on all companies, not just foreign ones.

Thai waste is different....just like Thai electricity.

Can you imagine the Thai employees that will lose income during these 90 days? Why not just state that the plant will be closed until the repairs to the building are performed, and up-to-code, without bribes being paid. Why make it harder for a company to come here and employ Thai people? This is ridiculous from a government standpoint. Let the business, and the employees, get back to work as soon as clearance is given.
