'You dead yet?' reckless van driver asks upset passenger (VIDEO)

BANGKOK: -- While most people sit silently and accept their fates aboard safety-challenged public transport, one woman stood up for endangered passengers everywhere in a video which went viral during the holiday weekend.

After reminding a van driver ferrying her and other souls from the Victory Monument to somewhere in Chonburi that he was responsible for their lives on Friday, a woman was stumped by the driver’s cunning rhetoric.

“Well, are you dead yet?” he asks in the video posted Saturday to YouTube by “Complain Van,” who obviously created the account for this specific reason.

He makes it clear he ran out of Fs for his passengers a long time ago. What if you’re some kind of safety official, and you sit right next to him while he’s driving? Nope, he won’t care.

This is pretty much how the conversation goes:
Passenger: Is it necessary to drive at 140 kilometers an hour? [read more...]

this sums up the problem very nicely ..absolutly No respect or care for the passengers..this idiot can go kill himself and it will be no loss....sadly even telling people like this to slow down or stop is like talking to a brick wall

I dont understand how these people get a public vehical driving licence ..or is it just a basic car licence (which would make the insurance invalid)

140 Km/hour ? I thought that all public transport vans had speed limiters built in now, since general happiness almost 6 months ago ordered that to be completed by the end of the month.

Will be seeing pics of his smashed up van and dead passengers soon.. idiot.

Thailand is the 2nd deadliest country in the world for number of deaths on the roads for many good reasons. Soon they will be proud to be the first, then they can claim to be the Hub of deadliest roads.

Just a matter of time

The driving abilities of such van drivers are only part of the problem, in reality thailand does not have a police force in the true sense to control these idiots.

Those vans are the best idea, you can go almost everywhere in them. Problem is the idiot drivers, who seem to make up the largest percent of them. Last November took one to Trat and back. Never again, I don't even consider them an option anymore. As a result, I am stuck in Bangkok more, but at least I am alive (because nothing in Bangkok has killed me yet either 55!)

If you value you life, do not get into one of those white vans. The drivers are frigging

lunatics. This video just proves it. And of course all the endless people who die in

van accidents prove it as well. Every time there is an accident with a bunch of people

getting smashed up or roasted, there is noise from the government about controlling

them to lower the accident rate. But of course nothing ever actually happens to control

them.... Welcome to Thailand !!!!

Last week we had a nine yr old driving. Today we have evidence that a nine year old has more common sense than this minivan driver.

  • Popular Post

That's why I don't use the minivans.

As has been pointed out, the public bus is a much better option.

A lot of "Thainess" exposed in that video including the Thai's love of material things over life/family/anything "I love my car more than I love my wife". If I hadn't seen a Thai father choose to abandon his wife and child for their new car then I would say that perhaps this video wasn't a showcase of how Thais think but it's appears to be the norm.

I hope when it happens, and it will, this driver only kills himself and none of his passengers or the other cars/pedestrians he crashes into. No doubt this will be another one of the classic "16 people killed in sole car wreck" stories that we see every day on the news here.

Everything's fine Thailand, nothing to change here.

What's he to be afraid of? What's his motivation?
He has no fear of non-existant policing, hates his wife, and has apparenty gone to great lengths to swath himself in fairytales magic- But I'd bet he cares if you fk with his money.

This place sure could benefit from a general strike right about now.

You dead yet? (Logical answer) Why! are you a ghost? if not you will soon be.

You can see just how fast it is from the video blink.pngblink.png

I have become somewhat numb to these white knuckle van rides from using them so often. Have only ever been in one accident (not serious) and a few close calls. That is NOT me condoning the way they drive. Enough people die weekly in those death traps.

Expect more deaths over the new year period. These Van drivers get paid not by the hour but by the load of passengers and they will be working over time over the NY period. No doubt taking some 'wakey wakey' pills to keep them going and drive more idiotically.

I'm going to get a "are you dead yet?" tee shirt.

thanks thailand for my daily humor.

reminds me of my trip where the other passengers had to stop and drink a few beers at 9:am to stop from screaming in terror as we drove along. they were truly scared to death they were going to die. great fun!

Good on her for speaking up. But seriously when stuff like this goes viral the sound of those who can actually implement meaningful change is deafening.

Jobs like these give the more rogue ish Thai males (like this fool here in the clip) a chance to be the king of their castle. I hope this particular fool gets some kind of dressing down or at the very least a fine for it. Might make him think a little bit, that's assuming he doesn't forget or simply chooses to put it on ignore

Bloke should have his license suspended and then maybe he would give a shit about his customers who pay his salary.

This is the type of cockiness that is born from doing the same shit day in day out on a loop but all it takes is one little slip or one loss of concentration and people could be dead or in wheelchairs for the rest of their lives.

Most of these mini van drivers are uneducated and don't even have common sense . Ofcourse you need sense to have common sense.

Will not be long before we see about this jerk being arrested , 100 000 + hits on youtube will make him a very sorry little boy

They could at least have translated it properly - have coconuts got too many stories or something?

Introducing the offspring of the mating of THAINESS with TRUTHINESS -- this "driver" and many thousands just like him. bah.gif

If I take a vdo of a speeding driver will I get on the coconuts Bangkok news source?

The tragic thing is that these mini bus drivers really think that they are good drivers.
Cause of action and impact assessment of one's actions,
incapable of learning from their own driving mistakes.

Defensive, anticipatory driving, many have not learned.

last i checked they still had big modern aircondition buses to trat from ekkamai, last i too one in that direction i had no qualms with the bus drivers driving.

Last I checked, this was a thread about vans.

Last I checked the poster was making a valid point about alternatives sheesh!

I just did a visarun to Vientiane. The driver never exceeded 120kmh, but did tailgating all over the time which led into a couple of critical situations. This van hat seat belts for every seats, but nobody used it. We were only farangs.

  • Popular Post

Tailgating the car in the front at 140 kilometers an hour with a van full of passengers and the idiot think he got skills!!!

Sad thing is that the country is full of drivers like him. I hate being driven by a Thai male driver, morons most of them.

  • Popular Post

These are the morons who hog the outside lane on the highways all the way only cutting in to the left at traffic lights so they can go through the red light.

And that scream through amber going to red lights - or red lights - lights flashing and horns blaring as if to say: "Get out f my way. I'm not stopping".

Scum.
