kingstonkid
I contacted the carrier in NA and they tell me there are not issues but that they have heard of this before. Has anyone here ever had this issue if so what did you do to resolve it

Crossy
What error message do you get? Does the ATM carry the logo of your credit card company (Visa, Master etc)? Have you tried several banks / ATMs?
kingstonkid
Crossy, Yes to the banks and my card contact your bank is the message sometimes it says timed out
Pib
Usually when it says "contact your bank" the card is blocked. More and more banks block certain countries now days...and many banks block "any" foreign country unless you have notified the bank in advance of your foriegn travels. You might want to call back and talk to a different representative.

colinneil
Did you notify your bank that you would be in Thailand, and for how long. I had same problem, my bank said card blocked because you did not inform us you would be in Thailand.
slipperylobster
If you never notified them that you are in thailand.....then one hundred percent chance that it was flagged/blocked. Call them and unfreeze. Need to call issuer of card. Research their fraud dept or emergency report number, on the internet. not a problem...at all. Tell them how long you will be here. chas39
Certainly some banks/credit card companies will require notification of travel to,say, Thailand. But Barclays for example do not require prior notification on debit cards. Normally this is ok, but a couple of times they have blocked the card and have asked me to phone them to check security. Glad they're checking but it can be disconcerting when you're sweating at an atm.
SheungWan
Be careful. Now it can be 2 failures and the card is locked if it isn't already. Phone the card company to ascertain card status.
kingstonkid
Thanks everyone but you missed the part where I already contacted the carrier and they say there is not an issue. i have been here for 4 years with no problems. About the strip that makes sense i am gong to go and try actually buying something and see what happens.
Pib
Thanks everyone but you missed the part where I already contacted the carrier and they say there is not an issue. i have been here for 4 years with no problems. About the strip that makes sense i am gong to go and try actually buying something and see what happens. Earlier you said the ATM message was "contact your bank." Or, there was a time out error. The few times over the years I have such errors is "after" I've entered my PIN into the ATM and its been accepted indicating the strip is fine. However, right at the end of the process after you have entered the amount of money wanted and you press continue for the money to spit out of the ATM the error message appeared. In each of my cases over the years when I called the bank they said they had blocked the card due to concern a fraudulent transaction was occurring for whatever reason. I told them no, it was me...I'm in Thailand...they updated their records and then the card started working again.
