Top Gear - Patagonia - New Year Special

Featured Replies

Well, having just seen the New Year Special filmed in Argentina and Chile.

I must say that laughed my tits off.

The very end of the 2 hour "adventure" (if it could be called that considering the size of the team) did become an ordeal. Quite well filmed considering all the people were attacked. Hats off to the brave souls that drove the "stars cars" when in fact the stars themselves had been airlifted to Chile.

Besides the odd end to the adventure I found it very enjoyable and full of humour.

Some of the locations filmed are truly spectacular.

Great show from the BBC + Clarkson, May and Hammond in V8s - brilliant.

God knows if they will be allowed to film anywhere outside of Europe from now on.........but its great to watch..

I watched the first part last week and I agree with you that the scenery was spectacular. But as to humor and entertainment value I think it was well below the level of the special they had in Vietnam a few years ago. Now that was hilarious. I'll check out part two tonight.

Why shouldn't they be allowed anywhere outside of Europe from now on ?

It's just the Argentinians who make a fuse over it.

Oke we all know that Clarkson loves to stir things up, and even when he said the number plate (was which H1982FKL) was "not intentional". I don't believe him 100%.biggrin.pngthumbsup.gif

Part two not as funny as part one. But still quite good biggrin.png

They managed to get a sly dig in as well that the BBC seemed happy to let slip by 'Is that bridge straight?'

Cheers.

Part 2 is far better than part 1 - the end of the programme is a bit odd - understandably - but turns the whole controversial affair in favour of the BBC (IMO)

Another funny and very entertaining special. It was mentioned several times how nice the scenery and people were , before the attack , and this would have encouraged many people , from many countries ,to consider Argentina as a posible adventure / holiday destination. All this potential tourism was lost , due to a bunch of un-educated knuckle dragging bafoons . Its a shame the country will loose out on a potential tourism boost. Im not taking sides as to the war ( I had friends on "Sir Galahad" ) but i believe this was blown out of all proportions. Clarkson is mischievious , but i trust him on this one , and it seems so do the BBC. The "Vietnam special" route is on my to-do list. I will spend my tourism money in friendly countries.

Well said Jeff.

I have visited both Chile and Argentina (I am a Brit) and have never faced any issue with regards to the Falklands ( apart from a brief debate one night 20 years ago in a small Chilean town called Pucon, but as we were very young and open minded we all agreed that we condemned all wars and opened more bottles of red wine = mucho gusto compardres thumbsup.gif )

I have met and worked with Argentinians and all of them hold no aminosity.

Stunning country, Chile equally so.

Great show by the BBC
