BANGKOK— The legislative body appointed by Thailand’s military junta has prepared 163 draft laws for consideration this year, state media reported.

The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has already proposed 72 draft bills since it was formed in August following the 22 May military coup. Forty-nine of those bills have already been passed, while the rest are still being reviewed by subcommittees and are expected to be approved this year, said NLA vice president Peerasak Porchit.

One of the bills will address inequality in Thai society, Peerasak said, calling it a “new year’s gift” for Thais from the government.

According to data from the World Bank, income inequality in Thailand has decreased in recent years, but remains consistently high with wealth disparities largely drawn along rural-urban lines.

One can tell these are rich elites running the show by the patronising way they constantly expect the stupid masses to be grateful for "gifts".

O RLY?!

One of these days they might get a gift themselves, if they're not lucky.

Well they seemed to be grateful for the "gifts" showered upon them by the Shins, perhaps that's where the idea come from.

And I doubt if the "rich elites running the show" have any fear of "getting a gift themselves, if they're not lucky", because nobody seems to know who they are.

You seem to know all about them, care to name just a few of these "mystery men"...................whistling.gif

Why fart around with reviews as everyone knows they will be passed into law pretty much as currently written. The NLA is pretty much a rubber stamp organization for the cabinet. Just pass them into law next week and then everybody can go on vacation for 2015.

Thailand has so many laws on their books and no one abides by them and yet still want to enact some more!

They are all meaningless as Thailand does not exist under any rule of law scenario!!!!

What a crazy and mixed up populace!!!!!!

Hmmm! Who run the country before the junta took power? The poor ones?

It would be interesting to see whom is the sponsor of all the changes to the law. Since there is no interests being represented other than those of the NCPO, which have constitutional immunity from prosecution, why be so bold to tweak the system.

I do hope that when a representative government of all the people sits I would hope their first acts would be to repeal or at least sunset out all these changes being made. This never seems to occur post installed government, which is a major oversight or lack of interest from elected legislature.

Werd, I keep waiting for someone to expose these people and name names................ a Certain author of a recently objectionable book failed to do so in said piece of work. I'd go ahead and expose the truth myself but so far, indifference is moderating my motivation :)

I have absolutely no idea what your post is referring to, but i presume it is either on the wrong thread or aimed at someone else, but it has no relevance to anything i posted.

My point was simple, but it may have gone over your head.

The poster was saying good, keep em coming, and i was making reference to we don't even have any idea what the laws are yet, they might include ones such as the tightening of land ownership or the FBA which could negatively affect many people here.

I am sure many will be positive, but surely its better to wait and see what they are before. I would like to of thought in this era of increased transparency that we might be given an idea what they maybe..............

All these laws being passed on a nation that does not have an effective or inefficient, or well trained or motivated police force that enforces them. Not to mention a nearly completely dysfunctional judiciary system. So, what to do with all these laws? Wishful thinking, at its best, and naive foolishness at its worst.

Hold your horses, its only been 7 months, i am sure the judiciary reform and police reform is coming... 3 months apparently for the police one.... I wont be holding my breath though.

There is an inherent problem with laws and that is that they are very often ignored. Would be better to reduce the number of laws and make the most essential ones function

Every day we should have a lottery of new laws ..for example today six new laws documentated / explained will be ..

7, 24, 26, 88, 101, 123 ..then -LET THE PEOPLE VOTE - go online and declare 'like' or 'dislike'. Democracy I think it's called.

I wonder and doubt whether all these proposed laws are being thouroughly scrutinized by the generals. No time for that !!
