Yasothon shows off its sufficiency economy projects

YASOTHON, 20 Jan 2015 (NNT) - Yasothon’s Public Relations Office yesterday invited the press to observe projects promoting the sufficiency economy philosophy of His Majesty the King in the province and neighboring Surin.

Members of the media were brought to visit an outstanding farmer of Yasothon, Mr. Tawee Mung-ngam, in Khorwang District. Thawi has successfully implemented the agricultural zoning concept, dividing his farmland into 2 areas, one for rice farming and the other for living, planting kitchen vegetables, and raising livestock.

He also produces biogas from poultry and cattle droppings, while using organic fertilizers on his Jasmine rice paddy. Tawee is able to make 180,000 baht a year from selling rice alone.

The media particularly showed interest to Tawee’s mushroom condo project with produce for household consumption. According to Mr. Tawee, the mushrooms produced are enough for daily consumption all year round, greatly reducing the household expenses.

The tour continues today to a learning center in Samrong Sub-district, Surin Province. The center belongs to Mr. Niyom Jitradit who is highly experienced in the cultivation of kitchen vegetables, proliferation of lemons and other useful agricultural techniques that he shares with other farmers.
