August 18, 200619 yr Hi, This is my first time on this site. I am a uk citizen living and working in australia. My fiance is a turkmenistan citizen currently ling in turkmenistan. We want desperately to be married and are coming to bangkok in the next couple of weeks to do this. The problem is there is no turkmen embassy or consulate in thailand. We have both been previously divorced and we both have our divorce papers. Will we be able to satisfy the thai legal requirements for marriage.
August 18, 200619 yr You will both need to complete an Affirmation of Freedom to Marry, have it translated into Thai and then authenticated by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Then you can approach an Ampur to register your marriage. As a British citizen you sign your affirmation at the British embassy. See Guidance for British Nationals Wishing to Marry in Thailand As your say, there is no Turkmenistan embassy in Thailand, so she will need to go to whichever embassy handles affairs for Turkmenistan citizens in Thailand. I've no idea who this is, but suggest that the Russian embassy may be a good place to ask first.
