Pheu Thai's claim not true : Democrat

BANGKOK: -- Democrat Party deputy spokesman Jurit Laksanawisit said Tuesday the Pheu Thai camp had made an unsubstantiated accusation when it claimed the party's impeachment petition against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra was unlawful.

He said that Pheu Thai legal specialist Ruangkrai Leekijwattana's claim that the petition filed by the Democrats against Yingluck over the ricepledging scheme was unlawful had no basis in fact.

Jurit said the party filed the petition with the Senate on November 15, 2013, seeking the impeachment of Yingluck. He said 152 MPs endorsed the petition but after the Senate checked it, six of those MPs resigned. The petition was left with the signatures of 146 MPs, which was not less than the number of MPs required to seek impeachment according to Provision 271 of the 2007 Constitution.

The Senate took ten days to look into the petition before submitting it to the National AntiCorruption Commission on November 25, 2013.

Senate Speaker Nikom Wairatpanich checked the list of MPs, he said, and that was when Ruangkrai should have contacted Nikom.

The National Legislative Assembly will vote on Friday on whether or not Yingluck be impeached over charges by the NACC that she failed to stop corruption in the rice pledging scheme that led to losses amounting to at least Bt500 billion.

The Pheu Thai camp had speculated that Yingluck would probably be impeached because most NLA members were rightwing extremists.

Perhaps Jurit should sue for defamation, the favorite pastime of all politicians, and all parties. We can all read about the courts decision on Thai Visa, if we live another 15 years or so.

boils fown to the fact that the ptp thinks they can do as they p[lease and no has any right to stop ot criticize them. The fact that they acted corruptly and without conscience during their term and the fact that they were part of the reds terrorist activites is completely denied by them even though it was on display for all to see. When you take into account that the ptp is owned and controlled by a wanted criminal that is in hiding so that he does not have to face all the other charges against him or serve jail time seems to be a moot point for them, the sooner they are all tried in front of a court the better

And there you have it. Intelligent debate or articulate responses were never a strong point of the PTP. They know they are backed into the corner. The contempt they held the voters in for 3 years is now coming back to haunt them. Did they promise to lose close to 700 billion on the scheme ?

Did they promise that only 5% of the money would go to poor farmers ? (as stated in a world bank report)

Did they promise that only 18% of poor farmers would be eligible for the scheme ? (again from the world bank)

Did they promise that farmers would be deeper in debt than ever with a average debt 103,047 baht ?

Did they promise to forget to make provision to pay the farmers when they dissolved the house ?

We do know that they promised several times to pay the farmers and that was a lie.

We do know they promised that the scheme would be self funding with an out of budget start up cost of 500 billion and it would run at a profit, that is a lie.

It's pointless.These fanatics have been provided with proof time and time again of the limited impact of vote buying but they are so brainwashed (or just plain thick) they cannot process the information.That's not to say that money doesn't play too large a part in Thai elections but that is true in many countries not least the US.An intelligent and (more or less) honourable Democrat like Khun Korn understands the position and has had some interesting things to say about it.The Democrats have been in fact the largest spenders in recent years as Korn acknowledges.If the current reform process could in a non biased way (fat chance I hear you say) look at ways of minimising election campaigning costs, we would have much to be grateful for to the government.
