Scaffolding collapse injures seven migrant workers

BANGKOK: -- Seven people, mostly migrant workers, were injured, three seriously, when a five-metre high scaffolding at a construction site for a Red Line's train route in Lak Si district collapsed on Tuesday.

The incident happened at the construction site of the Red Line train project in front of the IT Square shopping centre.

A State Railway of Thailand engineer in charge of construction and special projects said the collapse occurred when iron girders supporting construction beams buckled.

Seven workers were injured, three of them seriously.

They were working for Italian-Thai Development Plc on the route running from Bang Sue to Rangsit in Pathum Thani.

The SRT was investigating whether the collapse was caused by carelessness by the contractor or an accident.

Lak Si police said they have interrogated an engineer, supervisors and workers bur have yet to await result from railway officials on the cause.

Construction at the site was ordered halted until the investigation concludes, police said.

They added most injured are migrant workers.

Glad to read that under General Happiness corruption has been weeded out completely, and no sub standards in government construction projects will be used.

Was it carelessness or an accident. If it wasn't for carelessness there wouldn't have been an accident.

But it was migrant workers and Italian-Thai development Plc. So it will be dodgy Cambodians working on faulty Italian construction.

No Thai was harmed in the making of this project. Move along please.

Farang scaffolding is clearly to blame, would never have happened if traditional bamboo was used!

Of course.

The slaver's life is cheap at all.

DISGUSTING.

So you're privy to information about the reason for the collapse that no-one else is?

So now workers comp will kick in of course due to the employers duty of care for their employees and all medical bills and full wages will be paid by the employer until the workers have made a full recovery and are ready to return to work.....Right?whistling.gif

I watched the Landmark Hotel go up using bamboo scaffolding, no problem.

its hard to make out on my phone but it looks like the task was rebar fixing maybe for a column , possibly topping up from a horizontal position layed along the scaffold., those cheap A frame scaffolds are always collapsing. i hope the men recover ok.

"No Thai was harmed"

From the article: "Seven people, mostly migrant workers"

Mostly, meaning not all were migrant workers.

could have been the rebar cage wasnt secured and took the scaffold down with it as it toppled over

You can see looking at the type of scaffold used in the picture for a 5 metre height - this is inadequate and careless ( yes I do run a scaffold company )

the scaffolders where wearing steel toe cap sandals at the time.

could have been the rebar cage wasnt secured and took the scaffold down with it as it toppled over

It does look like they were fixing rebar for a column and the rebar has toppled taking the scaffold with it .
