Is it just me or...

First of all, I love the Thai Visa newsletter! It's a great service!

But I find that on a daily basis when I click on certain links I get an error, or 404 page.

I'd like to know if others are having the same issue.

Now this may just be limited to Macs and iPhones, but since about 25% of the world now use Macs and even more use iPhones, I would hope this would get fixed.

While I have at times received a 404, it's rare, and when it has occurred it's been due to the result of a Mod or Admin moving an item into another forum after it's been published in the newsletter (breaking the published link).

But not an every day occurrence.

Note: I would NOT suggest posting your actual newsletter contents here as it contains some special links attached to your account.

what is in the newsletter

what is it about

what does it have that is not here in the forum already

please and thank you

The "newsletter" is the automated email from "Thaivisa.com News Editor" and titled "Thaivisa.com News | Thaivisa Newsletter | 275,999 subscribers | Advertise" containing html links to Featured Topics, Latest News, along with some sponsored advertisements. Sent out at least once a day and also when breaking news.

So, similar but not as busy as visiting the main page.

Here's the link: http://newsletter.thaivisa.com/l/1MiYaOezq3F1kVLpSeh29w/79S!%20KXDzj1FhzD4g7wwiumw/43bSzEMHtLR4zIphneiX3Q

Here's the error: [404 error] If you're seeing this error after install, check this thread on our forum for the fix: https://sendy.co/forum/discussion/5/404-error-after-install/p1

Makes no sense whatsoever to me.

And it happens every day on my mac in safari, firefox and google chrome. Twice today.

The url coded links in the emailed newsletter are unique to each newsletter and are actually redirection links. When you click on one, the unique link is supposed to be matched to an entry in the 'newsletter' database that then redirects to the current location of the story.

I just went back to an 8 day old emailed ThaiVisa Newsletter and the URL links (special redirects) are still working.

Your redirection links apparently are either corrupted or don't have a matching database entry, hence the error response.

As a quick test to potentially see if the links are getting corrupted within your EMAIL or by your BROWSER, what happens when you go to the BOTTOM of the newsletter email and click VIEW WEB VERSION?

(Clicking VIEW WEB VERSION should present you with the same information and links as the emailed newsletter, same URL links)

So, does clicking the VIEW WEB VERSION display the newsletter?

(Hovering over the SAME LINK in the Web Version should display the same special newsletter.thaivisa.com link as the email version)

What happens when you now click THE SAME LINK(S) in the Web Version as you previously clicked in the email-based version (the one that gives you the error)?

Does clicking the Web Version properly get redirected to the current story ... or do you still get the same error as the email-based link?

If you are still getting errors using the links, how many links work, how many links give errors?

IF the above test using the Web Version properly links to the story but the same link using the email version does not, then a link corruption is occurring in your email.

IF both links fail, then there's probably a database error occurring with Newsletter.ThaiVisa that George (or one of his minions) should look into.

By the way, the example link you posted is broken ( contains an extra embedded !%20 in the URL )

http://newsletter.thaivisa.com/l/1MiYaOezq3F1kVLpSeh29w/79S!%20KXDzj1FhzD4g7wwiumw/43bSzEMHtLR4zIphneiX3Q
                                                           ^^^^

Actually should be:

http://newsletter.thaivisa.com/l/1MiYaOezq3F1kVLpSeh29w/79SKXDzj1FhzD4g7wwiumw/43bSzEMHtLR4zIphneiX3Q

So when the URL link is edited to remove the extra embedded characters the Newsletter.ThaiVisa database is given the correct special redirection link and it returns:

The View Web Version test I previously posted should reveal working links

I would say that 'something' touching your email is editing your email links.
