Court throws out Suthep's defamation charge against Tarit

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court has dismissed a defamation charge lodged against former chief of Department of Special Investigation Tarit Pengdit by former deputy prime minister Suthep Thuagsuban.

Mr Suthep charged that during February 27 and March 5, 2013, Mr Tarit, then the DSI chief, gave a press conference accusing him of misusing his authority as the deputy prime minister then to change the contracts for the construction of 396 police stations into one single contract.

The court, however, ruled that Mr Suthep did not follow the cabinet’s resolution to split up the construction contracts and Mr Tarit had the duty to investigate the case.

The case was of public interest and it was eventually sent to the National Anti-Corruption Commission by the DSI, said the court as it decided to dismiss the defamation charge.

Defamation charges can be defamatory in and of themselves, especially the way they get abused.

Just waiting for Suthep to be charged with defamation by Tarit for the unfounded charges ....

Or perhaps to be investigated for this, "The court, however, ruled that Mr Suthep did not follow the cabinet’s resolution to split up the construction contracts"

Why did he not follow the cabinet's resolution?

Why did he change the contracts for the construction for 396 police stations into one single contract?

Are these the police stations that were never completed by the winner of the contract?

Hope he sues the fake monk. In Thailand failed defamation charges can be counter-sued.

Never seen so many of these cases anywhere in the world.

Think Thaialnd has more cases of defamation a year, than all countries together

Congrats to Tarit.

Don't agree with this, but the rule of law must be respected being a principle of democracy...

Not all one sided after all........whatever....that Suthep and Tarit are crooks is a shame on Thailand!

Absolutely!

Why did he accept the changes and recommendations made by a police committee? Why did he listen to that Pol. Gen. chap who later tried to convince Bangkokians he'd be a seemless governor?

And yes, these are the police stations that aren't.

But, but, Tarit! Love the way one corrupt thief sues another corrupt thief for defamation here. It never ends. What a waste of the Court's time.

the thai courts always go after the reds/ptp and never the yellows who they always favour.........oh waitw00t.gif

There was a really interesting article on Suthep in the Bangkok Post a few days ago, about his life now. Shame we can't post it here but it's a cracker. I especially loved his explanation of how he hurt his shoulder. The other monk also gets a mention.

Congrats to Tarit.

Ergo, Suthep should be impeached for not following the cabinet resolution....

Suthep, Suthep, you brought out the mass crowds to demonstrate against Thaksin. It's because of you that Thaksin was removed.
Back in 2006, it was Sondhi who brought out massive crowds, bigger than the ones you managed to get. It was Sondhi back then who removed Thaksin.
Eight years later, it was you who was doing it, following in Sondhi's footsteps.

After what you've done, you have failed in your court case. So you was successfull in removing Thaksin, but failed to antagonise one of his senior servants.

The amount of suing and counter suing makes a mockery of an already joke of a legal system.

Tarit was becoming one of the worst for suing people, on instruction no doubt sometimes. He was singled out by the current PM just after the coup and made to stand up at a meeting where the PM invited Tarit to sue him.

The message was clear. A lot of defamation suits have been dismissed lately, from all sides.

I'd be pleased see see Suthep fail on any legal action in his favour... the guy deserves to be locked up.
