webfact Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Prayut bets with life to stop attempts to create rift in the countryBANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday bet with his life to stop and never allow any people to create rifts in the country again. He was speaking to farmers while visiting Phimai district of Nakhon Ratchasima province to hear their troubles.Security was tight as authorities feared of opposition from local people. But it turned out that he was warmly welcomed by farmers. He said he was glad to return to his birth place in Korat before he had to follow his parents to Lopburi province to study during his childhood. He told farmers that he could not sleep well during the past eight months after seizing power which he decided for the sake of the country’s unity and peace. He said he decided to come into power to drive the country forward, and not to let it fall into “democracy trap” any further, with promise to restore a good government with good governance and integrity. He asked for cooperation from farmers to help drive up the country to wealth and sustainable stability. The time for conflicts was over and he would never allow any people to create new rifts, divide the people again.“I bet with my life that I will no longer allow anyone to create rift in this land and I will never betray my country.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/prayut-bets-life-stop-attempts-create-rift-country -- Thai PBS 2015-02-03 2

Popular Post Costas2008 Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 That is why, I admire you Prime Minister. You are a patriot, and a man of honour. I believe that at the end you will succeed with your aspirations. Thailand will be a better country with you, in charge. 34
Popular Post PepperMe Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 The old "democracy trap" eh....... So basically, Prayuth is no big fan of democracy in Thailand. He is probably right. 81 years and 19 coups, I think democracy will never work here either. 14
Popular Post saltandpepper Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 Hope it's not the same as when drunk Chalerm was offering to have his head cut off 8
Popular Post BeforeTigers Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 So now he can't sleep? What happened to all that, running a country is easy for me, business he was talking a few months ago?How did they ever choose this bobble head to be the face of their, uh, administration- for lack of a more accurate, legal-in-thailand term. 5
Popular Post Snig27 Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 "I will never betray my country" - then what do you call a coup? "You are a patriot, and a man of honour." He's not actually, he's a man - not a very bright one based on his continual rants – who manipulated a situation to overthrow an elected government to serve the needs of the small elite that directs him. 36
Popular Post Thailand Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 PM for life then. 3
Orac Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Betting with his life - sounds like a play from the Chalerm Book of Political Posturing. Throw in the cooking and it looks like your standard election campaign.
Popular Post Bluespunk Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 Political disagreement is not a rift. It is a normal and healthy part of a mature democratic state. What is required is strict enforcement of the law against those in power when they abuse their position. It's not reconciliation the country needs but rather a respect for the rules and procedures of government. Elections give you the right to rule, but imposes the duty to rule for all. Politicians need to realise that they are there to govern for everyone, not their faction of the elite. That is what should be looked at now, not some utopian society where everyone is a happy bunny. It's not going to happen. Respect for the law and rules of good governance, now then, that's hard to do, but it is possible. Or at least should be. 45

I actually believe him and have believed in him from the start Those that question his integrity sincerity and his motivation need to take a long hard look at themselves The task he faces is not easy as there are so many people that will lose their rich corrupt incomes or at least not find it so easy going forward to do the same - Thailand has been in need of a stiff unforgiving environment for those that have found it easy to pillage and corrupt the people for so many years, they are the only voices that will be heard opposing such changes - I believe Prayuth Chan O Cha will prevail 17

Popular Post Just1Voice Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 You want to clean up corruption, Mr General PM? How about you start with your own beloved military. Thailand's combined military is one-fourth that of the US, but they have 10 times MORE Generals, and they are ALL millionaires. Please don't give me that crap about how they all "married rich girls", as not even the dumbest Thai believes that. When you clean your own house, maybe then you'll have the right to clean the house of Thailand. Until then all I hear is bull dung. 32

I agree with everything you say But history tells us that does not seem possible unless the rules are made so tight and bodies enforcing them given far reaching powers - hence the current reforms to try and put an end to the open blatant corruption for good One of my observations over the last few years and especially were Thaksin is involved is this ideology that getting voted into office somehow gives a government unrestricted power to do as they like - it is almost a primitive jungle concept that has no place in a democracy - and that message needs to be clearly made to everyone in Thailand until it sinks in and is clearly understood, only then will this country be ready to move forward 9
Popular Post eeworldwide Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 I wonder if any of the leaders involved in the previous 18 coups have ever said anything similar to this? Of course they have, otherwise - what would be the point of a coup? 19 coups? 19???? I mean, come on - why should this one be so drastically different? 6

NongKhaiKid Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Warmly welcomed by the farmers ? i suppose all his military and police minders might have just helped with that and the thought that even the slightest, even innocuous, sign of being less than happy would result in attitude adjustment. 2
Popular Post eeworldwide Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 It's like a scene out of a "Carry On Couping" film, with Sid James in the leading role. 5

Popular Post bkkgooner Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 ah yes poor little Prayut can't sleep in his mansion with his diamond earrings and gold bars everywhere bringing happiness to the people by warning them to keep their mouths shut what a man what a patriot 11
Popular Post jaltsc Posted February 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2015 "Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday bet with his life to stop and never allow any people to create rifts in the country again." This really would have excited me if I hadn't realized that there has never been a Thai politician who has followed through on any promises. I'm sure that he's already working on his excuse as who to blame for screwing up his plan.. 3

He certainly could not have earned that amount of money legally while working as a General, so did he inherit it all? One of his first concerns as PM was inheritance tax! Clearly a pressing issue for the Junta! 8

It was this same associate with whom the PM planned the coup. 3
