Some bad news for golfers, maybe good for the locals:

Link removed as per this forum rule. Perhaps you can paraphrase the information.

26) The Bangkok Post and Phuketwan do not allow quotes from their news articles or other material to appear on Thaivisa.com. Neither do they allow links to their publications. Posts from members containing quotes from or links to Bangkok Post or Phuketwan publications will be deleted from the forum.

These restrictions are put in place by the above publications, not Thaivisa.com
In rare cases, forum Administrators or the news team may use these sources under special permission.

The story going round is that EGAT must close the Mae Mo golf course due to environment impacts on the local population. The news report in The Nation does not make clear whether the golf course must close, only that mine must be rehabilitated. It is certainly possible that the course may be doomed, but that is not stated in the paper.

The court order may offer more information, but may be fully written in Thai and unavailable to me.

here is what The Nation reports, from 11 Feb 2015.

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/Egat-ordered-to-limit-Mae-Moh-impact-30253804.html

However, the Bangkok Post reports that the Court, in Chiang Mai, has ordered the golf course to be turned back to forest land, thus destroyed. If this is final verdict then expect compliance as locals and environmentalists are watching carefully and since EGAT is a govt facility (??), non-compliance would lead to problems.

The mine is massive and no doubt spreads pollution far and wide. The nearby population only wants decent air, water and absence of coal dust in their environment. Golf is nice but comes at a high price, esp if your land is grabbed away from you by elite rich folk.

Yes but you need a smog mask at present ... and frequently the hills and sky disappear ...
