Court finds former Korean Air exec guilty in nut rage case

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A Seoul court found a former Korean Air executive guilty of violating aviation safety law after a trial that stemmed from her tantrum over how she was served macadamia nuts on a flight.

The court said Thursday that Cho Hyun-ah was guilty of forcing a flight to change its route, the most serious of the charges she faced.

Cho achieved worldwide notoriety after she ordered the chief flight attendant off a Dec. 5 flight, forcing it to return to the gate. She was angered she had been offered macadamia nuts in a bag instead of a dish

The court also found her guilty of obstructing the flight's captain in the performance of his duties and forcing a crew member off a plane.

A sentence is expected later Thursday.

Prosecutors have called for three years in prison.

The captain of the aircraft was wrong .

He is in charge )responsible) for aircraft/passengers, not daddies little girl!!

My daddy is the boss, you will do as i say !!b..ls..t!!

How did she get to speak to the captain, who is in a locked cockpit????

Poor bugger scared of losing his job.

Should have let US authorities deal with her, put her off the aircraft ,not the chief steward.

Good. Some countries don't allow HiSo elites to avoid all responsibilities under law.

Sentence will be suspended.

Actually, no, the judge rejected her plea.

Good from SK that she was sent down, such is the hierarchical system over there, much like here. Thai law enforcement (laugh.png) and judges should take note!

The story does not mention the other executive with Korean Air and government representative that were convicted of obstructing the probe of the incident, which should really serve as a warning to those who assist these "elites"

The court also sentenced a Korean Air executive, Yeo Un-jin, to eight months in prison on Thursday for pressuring crew members on the December flight to lie to government investigators and delete emails describing the episode. In their emails, crew members had accused Ms. Cho of using abusive language and throwing documents at one of the flight attendants, prosecutors said.

Mr. Yeo also blamed the crew for the episode in order to “hide the wrongdoings of management,” the court said in a statement.

A Transport Ministry official, Kim Un-seob, was sentenced to six months in prison for illegally briefing Mr. Yeo on what were supposed to be confidential details of an official inquiry into the episode. The sentence was suspended.

Yes, it is refreshing to see law and order in action. When was the last time we saw an elite, or a super rich person sentenced here and actually serve time in prison? It sends a sad message to the population, when even the mighty general cannot get crime lords, jet ski scammers, corrupt politicians, top ranking police who have amassed fortunes, and others of influence sentenced. The system here is so entrenched, that it is going to require some kind of crusader to change things. Is there one out there?

What an endearing child. passifier.gif Seeing that many US prisons are privatized, maybe Daddy can buy him one to serve his sentence in. Of course, the lawyer team will probably go for the Ambian overdose defense. Community service and rehab. The humiliation of having to rub elbows with the peasants. <so sad>
