Not sure if its just me but there seems to be an ever growing amount of traffic on samui even during slow tourist seasons, which in my opinion means there is an ever growing amount of vehicles on the island. Just wanted to point out that in bophut from

12 pm to 1 pm

4 pm to 6 pm

there is usually heavy traffic, when I mean heavy traffic I mean there are cars stopped at the light and backup all the way to zazen and there is no accident. By the way i'm aware that on friday night its more due to walking street.

it would be great if other posters on here could also post other places and general times where you have seen heavy traffic and not due to accidents.

I have driven to Nathon today and then to Chawang and back to Maenam, I thought the traffic was much lighter today, than usual... I wonder if it was because everyone was up last night letting off fire crackers all night....facepalm.gif

Times generally though when traffic gets much heavier is after ferries arrive, with all the mini buses and taxis adding to the usual mix of cars and wobbling tourists on their motor bikes ...tongue.png

4 to 6 pm is always busy with the workers heading home... that never seems to change much.... wink.png

Bangrak, Junction of airport rd, by fresh market. Every evening from about 5pm-7pm, all the shoppers arriving after work, and badly parking their pick up trucks. Often causes chaos, and traffic jams.

Yep - it's a mess at that time. sad.png

This is not helped by the vehicles waiting for the 5.30 pm ferrry at the Seatran Discovery pier and potential traffic from at least 5 flights landing between 4.30 and 5.30 pm. facepalm.gif

I advise all of my guests to avoid the market area between these times.thumbsup.gif

oops - I forgot. They also have a 'market/walking street' on The Green on Wednesday and Saturday (?). This is on the corner of that junction opposite the wet market.

I should have added!

Lamai was pretty bad last evening, between 4 and 6 too, taking the Soi one route from Maenam, to near Buddies Complex in Lamai cuts out all the Chawang rush hour traffic...thumbsup.gif

Anyone driving through Maenam Soi 4 area (traffic lights) this evening should expect delays tonight and Thursday.... Chinese New year stuff going on.... Thursday is always bad at that point, with Walking Street!

Traffic sure is heavy at times on Samui and as a pedestrain it's not always fun crossing the roads in certain areas on Samui.

Maybe it's time for a few well placed pedestrian bridges as the ones in Bangkok? :)

Actually i love those bridges in Bangkok as they let us cross the roads safely, instead of having fingers crossed and pray to live another day.

Well - I had an appointment in Chaweng today at 2:00 pm, and was detained leaving Ban Tai.

I left Ban Tai at 1:45 in a mild panic . . . and was parked up behind McDonalds, by the lake, at 2:05.

Amazing - Ban Tai to the middle of Chaweng (car, not motorbike) in 20 minutes - there was virtually nothing on the road!

Actually I hate to climb up those, in the heat and pollution. ;) Well, anyhow its probably still better than getting killed in traffic.
