Shampooing seats and carpets won't necessarily do it. The smell is everywhere including under the seats, in the carpet pad, up under the dash...

I don't know if they have this in LOS, but in the US car dealers get rid of it completely with some kind of an ozone treatment. It's a machine they put in the car for some period of time, perhaps 24 hours and it neutralizes it. You won't go onto a car lot and find a used car that smells like stale smoke.

IMHO you'll need to ask around unless a member here knows and find out if such a machine is available in your area. I'd start with major car dealers.

Good luck.

I have had success by putting vinegar in bowls and leaving them in the car for a couple of days. Then it smells of vinegar!! To remove that smell put ground coffee beans in place of the vinegar.

Our problem was that some fish water got spilt on the carpets ... BMW had the car for several days!! ... took the carpets out etc. It came back still smelling of fish. The above sorted the problem for good. Got the idea from 'Google'

Vinegar works good.

My first year of car ownership I left the car outside, with a car cover, from May until November. Mold and mildew took hold.

Went to the car wash place, 900 baht and they removed all the seats and carpet, shampoo all including the headliner, reassemble.

Could still smell it. Bought a cheap spray bottle at Tesco, filled with vinegar, kept spraying the seats and headliner. Spray at nite, roll up windows, let sit overnight.

One week later noticeable improvement. Week two could hardly smell at all. Week three gone.

Week 4 built a carport.
