I just recently received 3 kg of cheese as a test.

I am Dutch and my family buys at straight at a cheese factory in the Beemster (famous for its cheese). Now if i add shipping I pay around 700bt per KG. This is of course old Dutch cheese of the highest quality.

Just wondering could I find it any cheaper in Bangkok.. and this time there was no tax on it. But is cheese taxed ?

It was send by post in vacuum sealed pieced (3 pieces of a kg)

Normal order would be 4-5kg for me as its best for the shipping cost. However if they start taxing it it might get a lot more expensive.

There's a big shop, here in Pattaya (Naklua Rd.) named Belucky which imports & sells Cheese (also from Holland), Smoked Salmon & many Sausages (Salami etc., on a fairy big scale. The Dutch Cheeses are sold in "wheels" (you know; the 'whole cheese'). If compared with the prices per Kg sold in small chunks at Foodland etc., Belucky's prices used to be almost 40% cheaper (but, of course: one has to buy the Whole Wheel). If you're keen, I'll stop-in there, one of these days and check again. IF these costs ares still the same, it could work if 'we' could share one of these gigantic 'wheels', say, between 4 Dyke-Hoppers ? ? - Let me know if you're interested, okay ?

Thank you for the offer Jaap, but I think if I take into account my travel cost to Pattaya the cheese might surely be more then 700bt the KG. But I am curious at the cost of cheese there per KG (calculated back from a big wheel (and yes I know been in many cheese factories i lived smack in the middle of cheese country.. Edam / Beemster Alkmaar)

As long as the cheese I receive from my parents isnt taxed it comes at 700bt a kg for old cheese. Think that is a fair price myself. But I don't know for sure.

Continue importing Rob because you will not find cheaper.

For example: Old Amsterdam (mature Gouda) is sold of cuts the wheel, at Paragon food hall, for 160 baht/100grs.

I have had now around 4 shipments of cheese all around 5 kg and none have been hit for taxes seems to go well. My parents just check what is on sale in the Beemster and get it for me. Last friday an other shipment was send and today I get a message on my phone its already in a container to be delivered tomorrow. So it seems to profitable to do it this way.
