Phuket Rental Housing And Crime

Aloha,

Housing:

Is it possible to get housing rentals in Phuket that approach western standards and have enough distance from a neighbor that you can't hear the karoke machine?

How much would such a place cost to rent?

Please describe in general terms what the following rent levels buy you:

4000 baht/ month:

8000 baht/ month:

12,000 baht/ month:

16,000 baht/ month:

Ideally I'd like to rent a nice big house of near western standards on a decent size piece of property, large enough to create an oasis of monastic like peace and quiet.

Crime:

How do the crime rates compare to the west? As a farang, do you become a target like in central american countries, or are things fairly safe in Phuket?

Mahalo Plenny,

John

4000 baht/ month: small 1 floor terraced house in a dingy and noisy area

8000 baht/ month: small 2 or 3 bedroom house, not bad for Thai standards.

12,000 baht/ month: modern 2 or 3 bedroom, approaching western standards

16,000 baht/ month: ditto, but slightly nicer area

decent sized house large enough to create an oasis of monastic like peace and quiet.?

For a nice house I guess you'd be looking at least 20,000 if its not near the beach. Double it if u want to be near the beach.

However, u can get a half decent place for about 10,000 - 15,000 somewhere like Chalong. It wont be big or luxurious but it should be approaching western standard.

Western standard (developed by farang) 3 spacious br, 3 bathrooms, office and 3rd bath, 20m pool with whirlpool, big garden, high walls, security system, luxuriously and tastefully furnished and fully equipped, 3 times a week maid, twice a week pool and garden service, quarterly pest control included, 700m from Nai Narn beach, weight training combo type machine, auto/remote garage and gates, sala in garden, 1 minute from weight lifting gym, inbetween countless restaurants, shops and bars 85k/month.

I have lived in many countries, but never felt as safe as in Phuket.
