NACC to consider whether to file lawsuit against Yingluck

BANGKOK, 4 March 2015 (NNT) – The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is considering whether to file a lawsuit against former PM Yingluck Shinawatra and other members of her administration regarding the compensation of over 500 million baht for the people affected by political demonstrations 10 years ago.

The NACC has been collecting evidence and carrying out a fact-finding task before concluding whether the multi-million baht compensation scheme approved by the former government is in accordance with laws.

The former Yingluck-led government earlier decided to approve a budget of 577 million baht to recompense families of 524 people who were affected by political unrest between 2005 and 2010.

According to NACC President Panthep Klanarongran, the questioning of witnesses has been completed. His next job is to submit the results to NACC commissioner Wicha Mahakun, who will make a decision whether the NACC should pursue legal against the accused, which include Ms. Yingluck, her cabinet members and some department chiefs.

Hopefully they will win all their cases against the amply rich gang.

A big hope. She'd better flee to big brother Thaksin's open arms for a tearful reunion and photo opportunity.

not completely sure what this money was spent on but I'd hazard a guess that it was a big thank you cheque to some redshirt activists for their stellar support - amazing how tax payers money could be used for such a thing

Nice work if you can get it - an average of over one million baht per person.

We do know that the red leaders came out of the riots as millionaires for the ones who were made MP"s had to make a assets declaration.

It was speculated that it was Thaksin money that paid them but now it seems it could have been the tax payer who funded these mercenaries leaders.

I don't think Thaksin would spend his own money to do anything.

I just recall that I split a finger nail when I passed one of the protest sites at that time. You think I can still apply for compensation?

If they held every politician accountable for the costly failed policies of their administration, every PM (unelected and elected) since 1960 would be broke.

This newly-found financial accountability is a very selective public service, at best, and obviously a foolish attempt to prevent anyone from aligning with the Shinawatras in the future (which is stupid). Anyone fearing to be under the gun will just use the same methods that members of the current government use to hide their assets.

Then he continued: Baiting the [families of] red shirt victims with financial packages is a dangerous, misplaced and misled move. That might be true if it wasnt for the fact that the Abhisit Vejjajiva administration has already had the Ministry of Social Development paying compensation.

Didnt Ahbisit did the same:-

According to the Social Development Ministry, it has paid out 400,000 baht in reparations to each family of the 92 people killed during the April-May 2010 violence, for a total of 36.8 million baht. Each of four people who were physically disabled received 320,000 baht, while each of the 86 people seriously injured (requiring more than 20 days of hospitalisation) received 100,000 baht apiece. Each of the 599 people who were injured, but not seriously, received 60,000 baht compensation. The government also paid 984 people who sustained minor injuries 20,000 baht each. One special case requiring ongoing medication received cash assistance of 423,209 baht.

Fair-minded observers would look at this and see it as wholly unsatisfactory. It was a pittance compared with the compensation the Abhisit government handed out to businesses in the Rajaprasong area, which had reached 14 billion baht in May this year.

Doesn't Prayuth want to compensate the victims of Suthep and the Mad monks demo also?

You mean the victims of the red thugs who attacked the peaceful protesters.

Try to get over the mad monk crap he is one of the good ones who has done more for the poor than the whole of the Yingluck camp put together.

So, the Abhisit government paid relatives of dead and those injured and Eric Loh finds that unsatisfactory. It would seem he agrees with the Yingluck government paying a half billion Baht extra (and get the signature under a document, not to sue the Yingluck government).

Well, that's his opinion.

BTW Eric, any data on the billions the Abhisit government handed out to Ratchaprasong businesses and how they managed to do that while out of office since July 2011?

Oh, 'had reached' and 'May this year' seems a wee bit strange. In my universe it's the 5th of March today
