March 12, 201511 yr Go to the festival in Ban Khut Wa, Kuchinarai, Kalasin, far more interesting. The third Sunday of May. This year the parade is the 16th, the rockets the 17th.
March 12, 201511 yr Just make sure your accident insurance is up to date: http://www.bangkokpost.com/most-recent/358898/rocket-dives-into-crowd-at-kalasin-rocket-festival
March 13, 201511 yr Yeah you don't want to end up like these two: The video is just from a British news source with cartoons etc, but the real one was pretty scary, in that it could easily be you, and there's nothing which you could do to avoid the situation (Other than simply not attending lol).So be careful if you goto any of the rocket festivals (Although they're usually reasonably safe if you're not actually letting off rockets yourself, but sometimes stuff like what happens in this video does actually happen). Also each province, and indeed most districts within that province, will have their own rocket festivals usually. You just need to talk to some of the locals, or hopefully some of the Ubonites on the forum here, can ask their wives etc about specific dates/locations around Ubon.
March 15, 201510 yr Many villages and towns have rocket festivals, even the small villages have great festivals, starts soon, and last for a number of months. The problem is finding ou where and when. Khon Kaen has a number around it, the TOT there "may" know. Nong Kai the same
March 15, 201510 yr TAT is the way to go for this sort of information, although on this link they give an approximate date. At least you have a telephone # for the Ubon Office who I found useful in the past http://www.tourismthailand.org/See-and-Do/Events-and-Festivals/Yasothon-Bun-Bangfai-Festival--6344

March 16, 201510 yr The one in Ban Khut Wha is pretty safe, if you aren't near the launch area, sometimes they will blow up on launch, but now a days when they reach their maximum height and the rockets stop a parachute deploys and they have a nice easy fall back to earth. When I first went after the rocket stopped, they just kept going and came down fast and hard, and it could be anywhere. Not very safe, but far more exiting.
