Came in on a 30 day tourist visa, extended once in Chiang Mai at immigration office. Leaving for Burma on the 1st April. Before I waste time doing a run to the border and wasting a day, I only need another 15 days. Do you think they will give me a second extension in Chiang Mai for 15 days if I bring all my docs showing I am leaving the country???? Or do I have to spend the day running to the border. Leaving Chiang Mai for Ko Tao on the 19th. So kinda tight. Appreciate some advice.... I am Canadian.

My opinion: CNX Immigration will tell you "Cannot." It would even be a good idea to bring your itinerary with you (departure ticket) to Mae Sai; they've been known to have bad hair days, but the main lady I usually see out front is very nice, but I've never tested her on rule bending. They might even put a "1" by your stamp. Might also help to have the 10K "show money," to quickly end the interrogation. Most have never been asked for it, but it does happen, and the sign is there. I once saw someone who wasn't smart enough to put in a hotel name on his new departure card, but instead felt the need to debate it with the officer, after all, he was a backpacker and things can change dramatically in 3 hours. Hint: just put the name of any hotel in CNR or CNX.....

It's not a tourist visa, it's a visa exempt (i.e., no visa) entry and you can only extend it once for 30 days. You can exit and return at some border crossings and get another visa exempt entry for 15 or 30 days, depending on your nationality.

The op is Canadian and therefor can get a 30 day visa exempt entry at Mai Sai. One time only.
