Shipping pets to the UK - cats, anyone done it?

Featured Replies

We're moving back to the UK later in the year and the Mrs has asked me to find out about possibly shipping her 2 cats back to the UK with us, anyone have any experience or knowledge of this??

Thanks

The soi dog foundation might have some relevant information - they relocate adopted cats to the Uk for 755 GBP cargo fee.

Don't they (pets) need to be microchiped, have rabies injection, and then quarantined for 6 months?

Microchip, rabies vaccination then a blood test at an approved laboratory to indicate a satisfactory titre (response to vaccination) but this must now be done at least 30 days after vaccination. It used to be within 30 days! Then a three month wait before travel.

There will need to be a heath certificate completed by an officially approved vet (not sure how this is done in Thailand). Here we have to be government approved to issue these.

Tapeworm treatment for dogs (Praziquantel usually) 1-5 days before travelling, again signed off by the vet. Not a requirement (but hopefully will be reintroduced) but make sure that there has been good tick treatment before travel. We have enough of the bu**ers here already, including some new invaders from Europe. We do not want Thai ticks to add to the problem!

No period of quarantine in the UK if you get the paperwork right!

Thanks folks, I'm trying to talk the Mrs out of taking them back to be honest, is there any other consideration i.e a Thai cat in the UK, heat or lack of it etc, not sure the breed of the buggers but they certainly haven't got thick coats of hair!!

Just tell how nice and cuddly the English cats are....,
