Art market in Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- A government art market featuring art for sale, ballroom dancing and an outdoor movie screen, will run at Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem area in Bangkok until March 29, the PM's Deputy Secretary General Renu Tangkajiwangkoon said yesterday.

This activity follows the success of a floating market and orchid market at the same area, she said, adding that the art market opens from 3pm to 8pm every day along the canal in front of Wat Somanas. The market will have a weekly theme.

The first week focuses on art for sale and food, the second week is ballroom dancing with a floating dance floor, and the third theme is 1950s era complete with the outdoor movie screen. The market is being held in tandem with the Thai rice market, which runs till April 5.

I'll bet the art is crap.

Don't get this wrong sprq, you would be surprised by thai people potential in art. I have organized some art exhibition in Bangkok and the art market and thai talents are booming lately.

Take a look at Adler Subhashok Gallery for example, they often have some very interesting exhibitions there.

Modern art is a new market still for now in Thailand, oppositely to classical pieces featuring Buddha or Elephants or Royal family paintings. However, the demand in modern art pieces is fast growing and the value of the works is fast increasing.
