Thais generally are not self-deprecating and may even find self deprecation disquieting.

If you're learning something (language or muay Thai) gnu gnu blaa blaa (an excuse for being not completely leaned yet) gets a laugh.

Excuse my transliteration...snake snake fish fish....you can find the transliteration you like best.

"pom pen kwai" should get a good laugh.

Avoid saying "ting tong", "ba ba baw baw", "same same" as you'll be thought of as hanging around bar girls from Isarn.

"Lor Len" (Joking), as well as perhaps "Kor Tort Krab" (sorry), and of course "Mai bPen Rai Krab" (Don't worry/it's all good/sweet as etc)might come in handy for when you do something stupid etc but they take it a bit seriously (And until you get to know the guys, they might take some of the stuff you say a bit seriously).

Otherwise, for something to say when you do something stupid, which will make them laugh at you.... I can't really think of a generic phrase which would cover all situations without making you look like a real idiot. Although I guess a simple "A-Rai na" (What was that?) or even better an "E-Ang na" (The same but in Isaan) when someone is speaking to you could both be helpful when you're serious, but also a bit of a laugh depending on your body language etc. Generally any attempts at using Isaan will always get some praise etc, since although Farang can often speak a bit of Thai, speaking Isaan is a rarity (Just using the phrase "Wow Lao Bor Dai" (I don't speak Lao, in Isaan) and "E-ang" gets me a lot of laughs etc, although it often actually makes people think I'm taking the piss and that I can actually speak Isaan lol). That's assuming some of the guys you're training with are from Isaan. You'll probably be instant buddies with the Isaan guys if you show some affinity for Isaan, but in general if you can speak Thai they'll be really impressed anyway.

However because you're Farang, you don't have to say a lot in order for people to have a laugh, even just picking up some of the kinda "sounds" which Thai people make will get a few laughs as it's simply comical that you act like a Thai person. Over time you'll probably just naturally pick them up anyway, regardless of whether you try to or not (At least I often notice myself sub-conciously making the appropriate "Thai" sounds of indignation etc rather than the English sounds).

Also just listen to what the other guys say when they make a mistake, and if it gets a few laughs, maybe try to emulate them, although be careful of course if you don't actually understand what they're saying. There will be a lot of in jokes within the Muay Thai group you're training with, and you can sorta pickup on those jokes. Also some of the guys will probably speak English, and can help to answer your questions about the language etc (And they'd be able to understand, and explain, the in jokes so you can start using them).

**Edit: Krab - Sounds like cup in English, as they omit the r

bPen - Sounds like pen, but with a b p sound rather than just a p.

Others are the same as they're written, with not too many variable ways you could say them, or at least they sound that way to me lol. You'll hear all of them soon enough, and can try to emulate how the Thai people say them for the best effect.
