the Garmin Thailand experience.

Sorry but Garmin stinks, I only use it because the others stink more. Examples on the expressway to Minburi there is specific turn off that Garmin tells you to turn when you have already passed the turn off (everytime the same thing - but we know now), which means a 22 km detour. It gets confused when you drive on layered roads like on the road to Mega Banga. On the route north from HH it wants you to go through BKK instead of using highway 4 and Nakhon Sawan, which means that when you take highway 4 the irritating women inside Garmin tells you to make a u-turn for about an hour. It is too slow on commands for BKK traffic, by the time it gives the command you can't turn anymore. The prenounciation of the Thai names are so bad that my wife can't understand what the Garmin is saying.

Why can't the Garmin have a learning mode which will enable you to travel your prefered route instead of the Garmins route. GPS's (devices) lack off developments will make them outdated within 10 years.

"Garmin stinks"? Well same my experience. I use now KAMAZ Speednavi, German product. Works excellent

I had an 855 Garmin that I bought in the US. The ESRI maps work but some features don't work. Lane assist and the junction view won't work. I also bought a cheap Garmin from Eagle GPS and it has lifetime free updates and everything works fine. In fact just yesterday I updated the software and map. That was the second time. The first time was somewhat confusing but this time it was all automatic.

I have a Garmin 2467LM and I would like to update the Thai map.

What version did you download and where did you get it from?

Cheers

Bill

Goto www.garmin.co.th/mapupdate and when you click on the Thai City Navigator 2015.20, download the instructions from there.

I just tried that and this was the result.

I use Firefox as my browser.

Your connection is not secure

The owner of www.garmin.co.th has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.

Are you sure that you are using the same site as I do ? I also connect to it with Firefox and see no problems

Edit: After some more digging it seems that you are maybe running a older version of flash player.

Check here: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Ps: The latest flash version is: version 21,0,0,182

Edit2 : And that error message is very strange as that Garmin website is not secured via HTTPS but only HTTP

I must have missed the Adobe reminder so I have downloaded the latest Flash player and that went in OK.

Flash player seems to want an update every 2 or 3 weeks.

I have 1 software update and 2 map updates that I am now downloading.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Now that you know how to update, the next time everything will be automatic. My last update went so slick that I wasn't sure what was happening.

I downloaded the new software and the updated maps, switched off and rebooted the GPS and it came back up in Thai.

After about 15 minutes trying to change the language I went next door and my friend got the language back into English UK and the rest was easy from there.

After I plugged the GPS back into my PC Garmin Express came up and told me I have the new software.

I am going out for a ride with my mate from Germany tomorrow on a 200km frying pan route. I loaded all the presets into the Nuvi and they are still there after the update.

I updated my garmin a while back it has lifetime maps but it seems that the maps are not that recent. Some new flyovers and roads near my home are still not included. Does anyone have any idea how recent the latest map is ?

Rob, the 2015.20 is already around 6 months old. (Approx Sept 2015)

No idea when a new version is coming out

Rob, excuse me, but what do you mean by "Can't seem to find the option to buy a new map"

If you have LM then there is no need to buy a new map as map updates will be free , but if you have a device without LM (and the new MAP supports your device) you can buy the new map (or even LM) for that device by contacting GPS Society / GIS Co.

I got 2 devices one with LM and one without, the one without I did not see an option to buy a new map. I had expected it to be possible from application at home with a creditcard.

^ ok. No unfortunately that is not possible. Contact the company I listed in my post to buy a new map for your device.
