BANGKOK, 17 March 2015 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Police has held a meeting with related agencies on the accident prevention measures that will come into effect during the Songkran festival, emphasizing on strict law enforcement while providing assistance to the public.


The Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Ruengsak Jaritake, held a meeting with 50 agencies on the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act, BE 2551 violation prevention and suppression campaign.

He has said that Thailand is among the top 5 countries that consume the most rice whiskey and distilled liquor, which is a major cause to causes health effects and road accidents.

Therefore, the Deputy Commissioner-General has said that the police will be enforcing traffic laws strictly, especially during the Songkran holidays. The police will be employing measures that prohibits the sale of alcohol on roads, and the alcohol consumption at bus stations, airports, or on public buses and boats. Alcohol and security checkpoints will also be placed along the roads during the holiday season.

The Deputy Commissioner-General has said that the police will aim to reduce the number of casualties than previous year, and will provide assistance and services, while making sure that the effects on the public will be minimized from the accident prevention measures.
