Help! I could use someone's assistance.

My Fiancee and I left Bangkok on Sunday (3/15) and arrived in Maui, Hawaii. (K1 VISA).

She has a Dell laptop with the Thai 3-Prong Round Male plug. TIS 166-2549

We did not bring an adapter, and she needs to use her PC.

I'm looking all over the Internet, and even Amzaon.com and many electrical places in USA.

Any idea where I can find an adapter in Thailand (OR ELSEWHERE) that I can insert

the Thai 3-Prong electrical plug and plug into a USA 2-prong or USA 3-prong (grounded) outlet?

Bare the wire and stick it into a socket

A suitable adapter is readily available in Thailand, even Tesco have them.

You should be able to obtain a Dell power lead with a US plug from any computer shop in the US, take the existing lead as a sample.

Failing that chop the Thai plug and fit a US one.

Your laptop is auto sensing and adjusts to the 110/120v. You just need a plug adapter. In Hawaii you should easily find a travel shop or even a Walmart electronics section with a set of travel plug adapters. I'd call a large hotel or travel agency and find out who carries them.

I went to the Amazon website and entered "Electrical Adapter" (in electronics). Multiple ones available.

These are probably available at any WalMart or Home Depot also. Maybe you saw some and didn't recognize that it was what you needed.

The Thai plug will fit in those 'universal' adaptors that take pretty much anything.

I have used Australian appliances in Thailand by lining up the prongs and giving the plug a good thump. It is primative but works.

If you can't find a 3-pin adaptor snap off the earth pin, you might find a 2 pin adaptor more easily (done this myself).

I'm looking at some USA adapters and may have found one.

I am a WUSS -- a bit "squeamish" about cutting down to the wires and just sticking it in a wall plug.

My Thai Fiancee is an International Currency Trader and SET Day Trader and this PC has EVERYTHING on it.

I blow this sucker up .... I'm in big trouble.

No back up to an external HDD? Critical, go buy her a 1TB external HDD and do it, keep it separate from the computer.

Go to Brookstone in your local Mall.

Oh and I second the Solid state Hard Drive or even big "Thumb Drive". I still have an ol 2 Gbyte thumb drive but there are key chain size units well over 20 GBytes

Cut the plug off and attach an American one.
